What writer's block?
The biggest question writers always get is this one: "Where do you get your ideas?"
I just realized I've stumbled upon the best answer yet. (It actually works.) All you have to do is choose a topic that has fascinated humankind down through the ages and set out to write a series of long-form redwood posts.
You will be swarmed by ideas. You will be plagued by them. You won't be able to beat them off. They will just keep coming and coming and coming. You and the teeny little spaces you want to fill up with your blither and blather will overflow and be overwhelmed.
I have been moaning and wailing about this state of affairs for months now. (Thank you for your patience with me.)
I am currently working on the final draft of the very last post of my "River" series for my blog, LIFE-BUILT POEMS: Living Out Loud.
This series has been about my explorations of the ways humans have used time down through the ages. This is a gynormous topic. It is as pertinent today as it was when humans first made up the Time thing.
Right now, I'm just adding bling and sparkle to my baby post. I'm making sure I got things spelled right and the thing is grammatically correct and all that. It'll be appearing in the blog in the next day or two.
I tell you about this only because I am fairly sure that I will not suffer yet another intrusion by a really, really awesome concept that just HAS to be integrated into the redwood thing that looks more like a banyan tree now. (I am keeping my toes and fingers crossed with that one.)
The thing that hit my head is that I have been writing constantly and consistently. I have posted at least one story of one form or another -- every weekday now for months -- in the MEDIUM platform, a very well-established platform for people who like to read and for writers of every ilk.
MEDIUM has been going through some changes for about a year or so and there have been many dire predictions about its coming-soon demise. Myself, I haven't heard any death-rattles.
Anyway, here I've been writing, writing, writing, even as I was swanning around playing drama queen because I was STILL not finished with my dumb series.
As I worked on my River series, all sorts of new ideas for new future posts about time and its usage populated my notebooks. I kept getting better books and finding new resources to tap and I think that my stash may be starting to rival Smaug's. (He was the dragon in Lord of the Rings.)
I will most likely have many more ideas for the coming posts in my LBP blog as well.
Yay!
Hope your new year has been treating you well.
Take care....
