NZ Terrorist Attack - has brought people together, we are one.
Five days ago my hometown of Christchurch New Zealand was hit by a Terrorist attack on Muslims, at their mosque, on prayer day.
New Zealand has never seen such violence, 50 people died from gun shot wounds and at least 50 injured. As I write this 12 people are still in ICU fighting for their lives.
I previously worked as a Paramedic in Christchurch, and it happened to be my old watch, that was on duty that day. I knew they would be all working to maximum level. They would be faced with the worst possible scenes, desperately trying to save those they could.
In the days that followed a most incredible thing happened.
Immediately Everyone came together. Everyone!
Shops closed in respect of the victims, donations came in thick and fast but the most amazing thing was the people. The strangers, in all shapes and sizes, colour and race. All came to see what they could do to help and to support the injured and victims families.
The Mongrel Mob and The Black Power are two Maori gangs that don’t normally see eye to eye. Here they were, together supporting the Muslims. Hugs and love were in abundance, from these tough gangster men.
Black Power performed the Maori NZ Haka, in respect of the victims and families of the Muslims. We are One.
It is devastating to see so much pain among everyone, but also beautiful we have embraced each other, all races.
Our new Prime Minister, Jacinda Arden was quick to deliver broadcasts and showed superb leadership. She stating that:
There is no place in NZ for violence. This is not NZ. This is not who we are. We are one. They are us.
She continued to hug those that wanted hugs, holding them tight.
This has effected everyone in New Zealand and maybe around the world too.
When I joined WA I was surprised at how much help was available. You only have to ask a question and get many answers back. Even from the other side of the world!
Yet, here we are, all different people, different languages, different religions. We are one!
I think this is a wonderful community, that all of you here in WA have helped build.
I know New Zealand will be forever changed. I think the people will make sure this change will not let it bring them down, but rise higher together.
To accept and include everyone.

As a Born Again Christian I stand in support and love with the Muslim community and all people who have been hurt by this act of terrorism.
May love and healing abound in Christchurch and with all the people of NZ. It doesn't matter our race, religion or beliefs, we are one people.
It is true that WA is just that. A world wide community of people from all backgrounds with a common purpose to achieve something better.

Even the atheist community, to which I belong, is appalled by the atrocities some people are capable of committing.
Though I have no prayers to offer, my heart definitely goes out to you and all of New Zealand!

not destroy their people and their beautiful country
and fraternity.
