IM is Such A Time Suck!

Have you ever noticed how much time you’re spending learning internet marketing?

Have you ever noticed how late you’re staying up at night when you should be in bed?

Have you ever noticed you’ve started one thing then hours later you’re doing something quite different?

Internet Marketing seems to waste so much time learning how to do it.

It’s like all you need to do is get behind the wheel to drive a car, but instead you’ve been diverted to learning how to clean the carburettor, or making the rubber in the tyres, or weaving the fabric in the upholstery – getting my point?

My other problem with IM is that with most other professions you go to school for three years to learn necessary skills and you are fed a structured syllabus of material, while with IM most people have pretty much gone through the teach yourself process after jumping through a (long) series of three day online courses.

Why is this?

It’s still new – and it’s still developing so fast would be my guess.

But how do you stop this time suck?

Go to bed? Yes and no. I have had these observations for some time, but in my short time here at WA I’ve learned a number of things very quickly:

1. Get focused. This means start with one website and one niche, keep it simple, clean and uncluttered – and start writing about stuff you like writing about;
2. Don’t think too much about all the money you are going to make or all the great internet ideas you have (‘shiny object syndrome’?)- just start – and just start with one;
3. Everything you need to know (including points 1 & 2) is covered clearly and concisely by Kyle here in the WA Lessons – you don’t need to go off and learn how to weave fabric.

So if you, like me, have wasted stacks of time trying to feed this baby, realize you are in the right place – at a great time. I feel enormously grateful for stumbling my way in.
