With the many self-help "gurus" out there offering advice in different books and videos, it would be easy to assume that there's some kind of "secret" to success you need to uncover in order to become a successful entrepreneur.

But in my experience, building a thriving affiliate marketing business is actually very straightforward when you follow the right process. And when you boil it all down, I believe there is ONE thing that can virtually "guarantee" you will reach your goals.

In this video, I explain what it is and why it's so important.

Thank you, Tim, a good reminder that consistency is key! I'm in full agreement with you! We all have to remember that we will have challenges and doubts; we have to remember to keep pushing forward!

Something that I have noticed about successful Internet marketers is the fact that they are consistent.

Wishing you a great day.

Roy

Spot on, Roy. And likewise, have a great day ahead! :)

👍

Hi Tim,

I agree with you about persistence. I have that in droves otherwise, I would have given up ages ago. There is a lot more I need to learn about this business.

One comment you made intrigued me. You said that we all make mistakes. When we do we should learn from them and move on ahead. What tells us that we have made a mistake?

My earnings are low compared to the time spent building my business. That tells me I am making mistakes But how do I know what actions are mistakes and what are not?

This seems like a silly question but I would love to hear your take on this.

Cheers.

Edwin

Hey Edwin,

On the contrary, that is a great question. And while I don't know if I have "the" answer, I will do my best to shed some light on your question here.

So, what I would start by saying is that, if your goal is to become a successful affiliate, you will always be error-correcting as you go because even though there is a proven process you need to follow to build a successful business, the online world is always evolving, and there are many nuances that only time and experience will teach you - like any craft. As such, we always need to be adaptable and willing to error correct along our journey.

How? The best way I know is to 1) diligently learn as much as you can about how to become a great affiliate through the type of training you get here in Wealthy Affiliate, 2) learn from what others in the industry and your niche (that are seeing success) are doing, 3) apply what you learn to your business in the best way you can, 4) determine what has and hasn't worked over time by analyzing your results as best as you can, and 5) improve upon your business and skillset as you go.

This, in my opinion, is the process that will help guide you toward building a successful business. And it is a very organic process that can sometimes take longer than we'd like.

There are a couple of books that come to mind here, too, which I think may be of interest to you. One is Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers, which introduced me to the "10,000 hour rule." This is a great book that I would recommend reading, as it underscores the importance of giving yourself the time you need to succeed. And another is a book called The UnProfessional by Jack Delosa, which introduced me to the concept of "failing forward." This is basically the idea of how making mistakes at a faster clip can help you get to the point of finding out what actually does work faster. And funny enough, that is basically what I did with my sites - created 100s of articles that were somewhere between horrible and "meh" to learn how to create stuff that actually ranks and converts. So through persistence, I was able to "fail" enough times to figure out what actually did work.

Anyway, at the end of the day, I think what I'm trying to say here is that success with affiliate marketing is a matter of time and practice. You won't always know what mistakes you're making at the time, but through persistence, you will error-correct along your journey and inevitably reach success.

I'm not sure if this answers your question or not, but this is the most thoughtful answer I could give you, and I hope it helps you in some way.

Hi Tim,

You answered my questions and then some. You confirmed Kyle’s advice. I’m so focused on getting my content just “right” it takes me longer to write it.

He advised me to spend no more that 2 hours to write my article, about 30 minutes to review and edit it and then publish. No matter what I thought of it.

This reflects what you said. Make my mistakes faster and learn from them. What may seem right for me may not appear as such to the reader. The only way to find out is to write, publish and check results.

I’ve started to do that. I used to spend so much time looking for supporting images to use that increased the time uselessly. Now I use much fewer images that add value to my message rather than for eye candy.

Thanks also for the book references. It takes me a very long time to read because I tend to read the words with no comprehension. So I have to reread things several times. I eventually complete the book. Perhaps I’ll look for them in an audio version.

I’m finding AI is helping me to work more efficiently. We’re living in exciting times which means moving fast to stay ahead is now crucial.

I’ll keep you informed Tim. And thanks so much for your help.

Cheers.

Edwin

Great Edwin, sounds like you are learning and making great progress on the writing front, which is excellent to hear. Keep up the good work!

Tim, thanks for this reminder. I switched to Affiliate Marketing in 2018 and indeed learned a lot. I am still in the game despite the fact that I kept spending considerable money over the years. The only reason I am still on it is my determination to be successful in this market. I see I am close to earning commissions this year. I can almost smell it. My wife has her doubts and sometimes thinks I am a fool to keep banging on the door that seems to never open. But my determination is stronger than her doubts so I am still going strong. Determination, persistence, and never-give-up are now my middle names.

Great to hear, Jack - you can do this! :)

Thanks Tim! I feel like a newbie on my first day, which is because that is exactly what I am I guess. Nonetheless I do plan to make it in order to earn a living from it no matter what. I respect and see a lot of value in your experienced words and I will be sure to hold this video very close during those tough times. Wish me luck ;)

My pleasure Chris, and glad you'll be able to use this to help you push through the tough times that every successful entrepreneur inevitably goes through. I got a lot of inspiration/help/mentoring from members of the WA community when I first got started online myself, so it's cool to be able to do the same for others.

Wishing you the best of success on your journey!

Thank you. I needed that.

Awesome Dave, glad it helped!
