FRUSTRATED....FTP isn't working

So I can't FTP into any of my websites. I tried FTPing into wealthy affiliate sites couldn't. Submitted a ticket and I guess isn't something to do with my end. I tried disabling my firewall and connecting couldn't. I tried Filezilla and Corelite FTP couldn't login.

I was having this issue with my hostgator account as well and tried both steps on hostgator. I am able to connect via SFTP with my hostgator websites so that's kind of weird. I don't know why I would be able to connect via SFTP and not FTP.

This is going to be a fun couple of days.... :(

If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks.

I kind of have it working, but now I have a different problem...lol.

My initial problem I would get this message "Connection attempt failed with "EACCES - Permission denied". Error: Could not connect to server".

I ended up uninstalling my avast antivirus/firewall along with disabling the windows firewall and rebooting my computer. I also rebooted my router and modem. I think rebooting my router and modem was what fixed the EACCES Permission denied error and I was able to successfully FTP with filezilla and core ftp le into my hosting accounts including WA hosting.

I then re-enabled windows firewall and was still able to FTP in. I then reinstalled avast antivirus/firewall. When I attempted to FTP with avast reinstalled and enabled it would connect, but just not show the remote directory listing and would eventually time out. I noticed on the firewall logs that avast was blocking the incoming FTP connection for the FTP programs.

If I temporarily disable avast I can use the FTP programs. I tried modifying the application rules for avast, to allow the FTP programs but wasn't successful.

I ended up posting in the avast support forums, hopefully someone over there will be able to help me with the avast application rules.

Frustrating...really frustrating. I find it really annoying that anti-virus programs can do more harm than good and can actually serve as a hindrance to your activities online. Glad you got it sorted and hopefully someone will be able to get back to you with a solution inside the Avast forums.

Yeah, someone was able to help me out. There's three levels for internet connections: home, work, public with each getting progressively stricter with connections. I normally set my connections in public to public and at home to "work".

I think when I uninstalled avast and reinstalled avast while troubleshooting my first problem I set my connection to "public" not completely knowing the difference. Turns out the "public" setting in avast completely disallows all incoming connections or something like. Furthermore when it's on the "public" setting it will also ignore any custom application rules you have set up.

Once I changed the setting in avast on my internet connection to "work", FTP started working.

What antivirus are you using cause I am having the same problem and I've tried 3 different client FTP s also. But I have not tried it with port 21 yet

I'm running avast on a sony vaio laptop. My roommate's computer is a mac and I had no problem FTPing with his, so it's kind of weird

First off, make sure you are using the correct details. You will get this under your "Details" within the Websites & Hosting page.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites

If you are copying and pasting, make sure you are not copying any extra spaces. This can cause issues and is one of the more common problems when FTP'ing.

Lastly, make sure that you are using Port 21. If you aren't, this will also cause issues.

If none of this works, PM the name of your website and the details that you are using and I will have a look into this for you.

Thanks Kyle.

I borrowed my roommate's laptop and was able to log into my hosting accounts and Wealthy Affiliates hosting.

Unfortunately, I am still not able to login using my laptop, so it's something to do with my laptop.

What it is I have no idea. I think it might have something to do with the antivirus/firewall.

Yeah, sounds like it could be something related to either that or your wi-fi connection. I would try a search in Google as I am sure many others are having this problem as well and you might be able to get to the bottom of it.

Hi Kyle just a small question, I ran into this post a few years after lol. I noticed that if I dont have a domain bought the ftp username and password doesnt appear, I checked my pages with premium domains and ther have it, is there a reason for that?
