HEPFUL HINTS

I ran cross these two articles and thought this is something we all can use here. I copy them,as they were written, below:

Writing that sells

Dear Client

The wording you use on your website will have a massive impact on its effectiveness, so make sure it's done right.

We do a huge amount of web writing and we've learnt a thing or two about writing that gets results. Today I'll share some of these insights with you.

Write in plain English
Be clear and concise. The days of using business jargon are over.

Put your key sales benefit into your headline
If you're selling widgets, then your headline should read something like, "Save R1 000 a year using our widget - and it's faster to use!" Don't say, "We make the best widgets!"

Don't be boring
It's inexcusable, whatever your business. Be imaginative and different. Bring your product or service to life!

Don't cut & paste
Google loves "fresh copy" and it helps rank your website higher. Be original - plagiarism has a nasty habit of catching you out!

Write about benefits not features
Rather say, "You'll save five hours week when you use our widget" than "Our widget works 20% faster than other ones."

Use testimonials
These give huge credibility to your product or service.

Tell them what to do
Call now, click here... People respond favourably to clear calls to action.

To your success!

...and the second one:

Less is more

Dear Client

We're talking your website homepage today. Given that people who visit your site will spend less than 30 seconds there, it's vital that your core message is presented in a way that is simple, sharp and concise.

At the risk of offending you, I'm guessing you could cut out 70% of the elements you currently have on your homepage. I know how strong the desire is to let visitors know all the aspects of your amazing service - but don't do it!

  • De-clutter and give the main message room to breathe.
  • Refine and amplify your core message to improve the power and impact of the "first impression".
  • Keep text to an absolute minimum; try using images or custom created graphics to illustrate and reinforce your key points.

It makes all the difference!

Have a quick look at your current homepage and answer this question: "At a glance, does it tell me how your service/product can enrich my life?"

If not, why not decide to improve it today?

To your success!
