November 11, 2025: My First Brush with Death

Temperature: 24 degrees.
Wind: aggressive.
Snow: rude.

My journey began early. The prep started even earlier. Four cups of coffee down. A carnivore breakfast of one hard-boiled egg, bacon, and sausage. Because why risk it on an empty stomach?

I suited up like I was heading for the Arctic, not the end of the driveway. GPS on. Satellite phone packed. Extra battery in case I get lost somewhere between the porch and the mailbox. Boots double-laced. Mission: survive.

The snow was coming sideways. The wind slapped me like it owed me money. My lips froze halfway into a complaint. Time slowed. My dog watched from the window like, “Yeah, no thanks.”

After what felt like days, I reached my destination. The mailbox. The holy grail. I opened it… empty. That’s when I remembered that today is Veterans Day, and the mail doesn't run. To make matters worse, the letter I meant to send was still on the kitchen counter.

So yes, this was my worst trip to the mailbox. Ever.
