Update on Hubpages
At the end of the first month just from Ad revenue I had earned $1.55, then Panda 3.0 hit and Hubpages lost 46% of its traffic. However at the same time the merger with Squidoo was ongoing and they had to upgrade servers twice as well. All of the traffic loss was not due to Panda. At the end of October the Ad revenue for all 47 Hubs was $1.10.
That said today my earnings for yesterdy were 19 cents and that was from just 70 views, with good SEO and correcting all my inbound links my traffic is now rising as are the earnings. Since there are also eBay and Amazon modules available I think this is one free site where reaasonable earnings can still be made.

I am hoping so and think it will. HP have the help of professional editors too. Their Quality assessment is also stricter than Squidoo so rubbish sites get banned and removed more quickly. Over time that will help.
Thanks for this update. I was considering this when I got the notice about the Squidoo merge. My concern is that at some point the search engines will start treating Hub in the same way as article sites and start to de-rank them. I could be wrong. ~Jude.
There is exactly the same fear being talked about on the site. They did lose a lot of traffic after the merger. It seems that Squidoo had a terrible reputation due to their very unfair method of distributing advertising revenue. You had to be a Giant Squid to earn anything. This is not the case at HP.
It did not help that HP had to change servers twice to cope with the additional traffic and increase in volume and that the merger coincided with Panda 3.0 and an update to Penquin too.
We will have to wait and see, however I am getting better traffic now things are settling down and my earnings from Ads are rising. They pay a much higher CPM than I get elsewhere.
Yes, time will tell. It does look promising now that the dust has settled. Thanks for info. ~Jude
It is a writers site that allows you to make one or two page sites very quickly. It is free to join and has eBay, Amazon and Adsense as monetisation. Since the site has 40 million visitors they get top rates, and writers each have their own subdomain and therefore are building their own reputations.
These types of sites are good for niche testing, back links and building your online prescence.
I've transferred all of my lenses over to Hub, but haven't looked at them since. Almost had forgotten all about them. Thanks for reminding me.
Meredith, take a look you might be pleasantly surprised. Make sure you change links to be direct to hubpages. I found that just changing that has increased my traffic dramatically.
I just started using them. Trying to learn the ins and outs. Guess it's good I cam e after all the changes? Any tips for a new hubber? or whatever the term might be. lol
Just ensure you sign up to the ads program and get adsense set up. Then use your referral trackers as you can get paid for referals. Then keep writing original helpful Hubs of around 1250 words each. Finally have fun!
I signed up for the ebay, amazon and adsense - that's all they allow, right? Not sure about referral trackers. Do you mean referring Hub Pages? I also link back to my website in what I write on hub but I make sure it's relevant to what I'm linking back to.
If you go to the earnings tab under your account on the right there is a referal tracker already set up for you. This is put in your urls like this
Yourhubpagesname.hubpages.com/_referaltracker/hub/hubtitle.
Just remember to add it always after hubpages.com and to include the _ You get 10% of the earnings of people that sign up under your tracker from HP's share for the duration of their membership.
There are rules the tracker cookie is good for 90 days or just 2 hours if they link via another tracker cookie. You can set up more meaningful trackers, directions can be found on HP if you need help. You can also message me if you are stuck.
There is a limit of only 2 links to any one site per Hub make sure you comply or they will lock the Hub and persistent failure could lead to a ban.

I am on HubPages and finally, in June 2015, my once good Squidoo lens now Hubs, are seeing traffic. Of 171 lens transferred I now have 13x Hubs. I am getting 30 cents a day from Adsense.
