How Dogs Are More Like Kids Then We Think!

This is my dog Cali or you can spell it Callie (Your choice), but she is named after California (Cali) for short! She looks cute right, just look at that little face, and those ears! Don’t let that face fool you! She is a Master at being mischievous! Nothing is safe with her around! She is a Russian Toy Terrier (Terror is more like it )lol…She has these SUPER long legs and is able to leap tall buildings in a single bound..well..okay…not really, but she can jump from the couch…to the dining room table and look like she is flying! She can undo zippers with her mouth and teeth, which she has done with my purse a few times now, just to grab papers to rip up! Don’t know if those papers offended her somehow, but she can rip them into shreds that there is NO way you can tell what they were beforehand!

We have now gone through 4 phone chargers until my husband in his genius way decided to coat them with black pepper, and if that doesn’t work Cayenne pepper is standing by in wait! Yes, “She is so adorable”, people say!” “What a little Doll”, as she curls up sweetly on my lap when company is over! Great! That she is! “Do you want to babysit for a night and a day?” *Evil Grin*. But, oh, how we love her unconditionally, just like we loved our children who are now all adults!

Now, this is Nash, our boy dog! His name is short for Nashville, and he is a Chihuahua! The only kind of dog I had for years before we decided to try a new breed in Cali. (The Russian Terror)…lol! As you can tell, my dogs are named after our favorite places! I fully trained Nash in a week! We got him at 8 weeks old, and by 9 weeks, he wasn’t biting, chewing, and could use the green grass washroom pads we bought for the dogs to use! Fully trained he was and the treats helped with that! Another smart dog in him as well! He is not as mischievous like Cali…well…not as much! He learned that every time he used the grass pad, he would get a treat! So, he would do his business, jump off, get praise, hugs, and kisses, and a wonderful tasty treat! He realized the reward for going on the pad, so he would then run to his water dish, drink a gallon of water, and he would run back to his grass pad to go to the washroom again, and he would actually try and force it out to receive another treat! Which gave him his love of food! He doesn’t know when to stop eating now! He was soooo tiny, we could put him in a teacup and now he has become this chubby little guy that waddles, so now he is on a diet! Don’t worry, we don’t starve him, just have to give him less, and still make sure Cali gets more as she’s so lanky, she looks skinny!

Cali will use the grass pad to go pee, but she will ONLY poop beside it! Can’t figure that one out! She already knows it’s wrong to do that, but I swear that when she does it, she looks me in the eye, and actually smirks because I had the audacity to work on the computer with WA! My son Calum who lives with me says “Mom, she’s a brat and gets into everything” I turn to look at him, one eyebrow raised, and say to him, “hmmmm…kinda like you when you were young!” Nothing was childproof with my son Calum! He could get into ANYTHING! Funny that their names are so similar! (Just thought of that).

Those two are my babies! I run after them, cuddle them, play with them, love them to pieces and work on WA when they nap, or when Cali is sitting curled up on my lap (rare time), and Nash is more independent! Dogs are more like children than we realize. Oh, how I love them!

We had two Chihuahuas before them, and they both lived for 11 years! A boy named Sawyer, and a girl named Dolly. I loved them to pieces! Sawyer died a week before last Christmas of cancer, and Dolly died almost 3 months later on March 1 of internal bleeding! The vet did the blood transfusions and the whole bit, but there was no saving her! I told my family “No more dogs!” The pain of their deaths so close together was hard! They were my best friends since I was at home with them all the time! But, the vet, my cousin, my husband, and my daughter all encouraged to get another one, so onto Kijiji, I went and found Nash! Fell in love and we purchased him! He was my May birthday gift! That wasn’t enough though! My husband and my children chipped in and bought me Cali for mother’s day, (the same month). When we picked up Cali, we got the Vet papers of needles she had and needed yet, and I glanced at the top of the folder where it says birthday, and she was born on March 1, (The same day my Dolly died).

These is my dog Dolly and me in healthier days!

Now I have them and love them, but I promise I will still work my butt off at WA, but if I don’t answer a question or respond to a post right away, just assume I’m chasing Cali down off the table or something similar…lol

P.S My next post will be more business related and serious! Just trying to alternate to spice things up a little! J

Hi Terry, oh what some cuties you have there! Cali does look mischievous, haha! Reminds me of our Daisy...she's a Shih tzu and what a stinker she can be too with the potty thing!

She somehow has the idea that she can poop in the house sometimes although she just went outside and went pee. Although she's been getting much better at not doing this lately, it still happens. Awww, well...we still love her! And, our other two big dogs as well, Jade and Argon.

We did have more dogs, a total of five for many years, but in the past few years, two of them passed away. Our husky mix, Pepper and our little Teddy Bear, Mocha. Still miss them so much...so, I certainly understand how you felt after losing your Dolly and Sawyer! There was a time before we ever got some of these dogs that I didn't want another one...just too much heartache when they pass away. But, well, you can't resist a cute little doggy face!

Nash looks like he's quite a character too, lol! He sure caught on to the treats and how to get more! Now he reminds me of our Jade, lol. She does anything to get more food! And, no she sure isn't starving either by the looks of her...she's gotten way too chubby and definitely needs a diet too.

Thanks for sharing your cute fur babies with us! Now I know I'm not the only one that gets interrupted all the time by not only my kid, but my dogs too!

Best wishes to all of you :) ~Sherry

I just love your long comments! :) I figured since you had dogs of your own, you would like this post! They are a handful, but so lovable as well!! Still miss my other two, but these guys help get my mind off them, and WA helps as well! This couldn't have come at a better time! :)

Terry, Which one talks to me? Seriously, people this dog actually talks, it is the funniest damn thing I have ever heard.

That is Nash! The Chihuahua! I worked with him for two days until he was talking and howling with me! We call it "Singing Country Music"! lol Now don't get me wrong, I love country music, but so many people make fun of it, and says it's like dogs howling, so with Nash, named after Nashville, I thought I would have a little fun with it! :)

I have to tell you that is just way too funny, and Guy gets that puppy going.

lol..ya..they're a hoot, and they keep me going!! :) Cali sometimes sits on my head when I'm trying to work..lol

As long as it is only sitting on your head, the alternatives get kind of messy.

Maybe that's the reason why they are called man's best friend for they are so attached to us than other animals do.

Probably why! But they say, Diamonds are a girl's best friend". I would choose my dogs over diamonds any day..lol

That's the difference between the living things and non-living things. lol.

Hi Terry, a super post. Irv.

Thank you :)

Hi Terry. Love your post. I love my two guys I have now. My best friend Scottie passed seveal years ago. Still have a hard time with that sometimes. They are like our kids. And our best friends.

Thanks very much Mark!! :) They keep me on my toes...lol

there are so cute, I had 2 dogs they lived for nearly 21 years. I loved them dearly. Now we have to stray cats and looking after some other stray cats. It came not by choice but when an animal asks for help I do not care what species it is. I am there to help.
Animals are such a joy in your life and yes they can be like children. Beautiful Pictures.

Thank you very much!! :)

I love them too! Cali knows what she is doing, she is a rebel and a saboteur. You have learned to be a great psychologist, Terry!
