Good Enough: The Enemy of Amazing
In case you're curious, I've been pretty busy over the last 6 months - not only with the holidays and starting a new job, but I've been busy caring for an adorable tiny new addition to our family - so proud to have 2 adorable sons!
Between all of these things, I haven't had much time to work on affiliate marketing, despite my wanting to.
But that made me think. Is it REALLY that I haven't had time?
Or that I haven't made time?...
And I got to thinking about this more.
If you had to guess, what would you say is the biggest reason you and I are not achieving the best things we could imagine...
in our lives...
.. our online businesses...
...our hopes and goals and dreams?
You might say 'lack of time', 'not enough money', 'too little knowledge', or a lot of other things.
And sure, any of these (or other excuses) might be the truth.
But you know what? I have a theory.
My theory is that it isn't lack of resources that stops us.
It's not because we don't know how to get a 1st page ranking... or because learning marketing is difficult...
Or even because we're afraid to fail.
No... I think what keeps us from really, TRULY achieving greatness...
the goals and plans and hopes we have in our most vivid visions of success...
...is that we're content with 'the Good Enough'.
What's 'the Good enough'?
It's doing 'okay'. It's having some amount of success. It's having things go 'reasonably well'.
Not that this is bad... but so often, it can keep us from doing AMAZING.
Simply put, the enemy of the BEST... is the GOOD ENOUGH.
Have you ever stopped short of doing something you knew would be really awesome... just because what you already had done was good enough?
It's easy to look at something that's going okay and say 'hey, good enough, it's not worth more work'... why bother?..
..When really, that extra work would be the thing that made the good thing AMAZING?
From "Good" to "Good Enough"
What's the difference between "Good"..and "Good enough" ?
Simple.
Good describes how things are, right now. Good has potential.
It's better than mediocre. Not as good as 'awesome', but it's decent. It could go somewhere.
But Good Enough, well...
Good Enough says "We've reached 'good', and we're here to stay." Time to flop down on the couch early and call it a day.
It means you're content with not reaching further, working harder, giving 110%.
And, if 'good enough' is good enough for long enough, it makes you complacent.
Why work harder.... if you don't NEED to?.. if you don't think it will get you anywhere?
Why put in the extra time to learn, think, grow, try, and fail... if you're already kind of successful?
If you've put life into "good enough" mode, you've put on the brakes. No need to learn, no need to grow.
You've got what you need and you're happy, parked solidly in 'good enough'.
And the fact is, sometimes things just are this way - putting in more effort won't get you any more results, or better ones.
But I bet we took a look at our lives, there's a lot of things we're just doing 'okay' at...
...even when putting in more effort would make a difference.
Beyond 'Good enough'
The amazing thing about "Amazing"...
is that it's always there, it's always available...
because it only depends on YOU.
Are you content with good enough? Are you content 'just getting by'?
If you never achieved another thing, never moved forward or made progress with your business, your goals... your passions...
Would that be okay?
If so, great - and congratulations on being content with life.
But if not...
If you've never really considered the fact life COULD be amazing if you really wanted it to...
..if you've never realized that unless you change your life, it probably won't change...
..and if you maybe haven't considered that so often, the difference between 'good enough' and 'amazing' is so very small...
then I invite you join me.
Until it's amazing.
Join me in frustration.
No really, I invite you to join me in being frustrated.
Being frustrated with getting by, being frustrated with 'good enough'.
Don't be content with just 'whatever'.
Don't let your hopes, your ideals, the 'what-could-be' grow cold and die out on the ashes of apathy.
Join me... in being mad at mediocrity...
..and use this passion and energy to take the good ... and forge it into something better.
Look at where you're merely content with life, and then ask yourself, "What would need to happen to make this... AMAZING"?
Take a look at your business, your goals, your dreams, your relationships.
And ask yourself... "is this the BEST that it could POSSIBLY be?!?"
Because if not... ...the solution lies with you.
We're all given the same seconds, minutes, hours, and days.
But what you do with them, what you achieve with them... is entirely up to you.
You can choose whether your days are lived 'good enough'.
Or whether you make each one..
...simply amazing.

Thanks for a great post. These are excellent points to remember every day. I've done well in my offline business by producing "Amazing". The odd time that I leave it at "good enough", it's usually due to lack of funding on the clients part. This has come back to haunt me every single time. I wasn't happy with the final product, and I never receive any referrals or repeat business from those clients. It always comes down to exceeding expectations. Our online business is the same. Good to have you back. I've been kicking around here for a while as well. Time to apply "Amazing" to my online endeavors.
Hey Joshua. OK, how's this for synchronicity? I actually glanced at your profile yesterday. :) It so happened my counter clicked over to 1,000 followers, and it triggered the memory that you were the first person I interacted with here and my first ever follow so that got me to wondering how you were doing. This morning, low-and-behold, you've blogged an update, so great to hear from you and many, many congrats. on the latest addition to your family. Rich. x
Wow Rich, what a coincidence! Super honored to be the first follow! And thanks for the congratulations as well - building a family is a lot of work but wonderful at the same time! We'll definitely have to catch up a bit more - now that I'm back, I'm curious how you and others are doing as well! But what a fun milestone of 1,000 to celebrate!
Great post. I think that in some things I do just say well that is good enough and in other things I do try to make it what you would say as amazing. So, I am going to do better than that and try to make it all amazing as much as possible. :)
Fantastic! :) Sometimes good enough is good enough, but sometimes there's something so much better just around the corner!
