What is a SaaS application, and why WA members should care?

Hi everyone,
This is my first post on WA, so don't expect me to follow all the best-practice rules. Aww, and I'm not english-native, so my text might sometimes be awkward :)

What is a SaaS application?

Let me dive into the core subject directly. "SaaS" stands for "Software as a Service". You probably noticed that more and more software is sold as a membership subscription rather than as a lifetime licence. The membership subscription to WA is pretty similar (despite the fact that here it's not a single app per se, but a combination of a forum, a website builder, training materials, ...).

SaaS application are often related to the B2B (Business to Business) world. Which means that subscription can be relatively expensive. To give you an example, $100/month is a pretty common price. If the app is to be used in large entreprise, you can expect a several thousand $ bill each month.

Why is "SaaS applications" a good niche

As SaaS applications are billed on a monthly or yearly recurring schedule, an affiliate lifetime can be really long. If you manage to get one affiliate for a $100/mo plan, on which you get a 10% commission : after 12 months, you'd have earned $10*12 = $120 , with just one affiliate.

And you will keep earning a commission for a very long time, maybe for years. So, if you can bring one new affiliate per week, after one year you will earn 52 * $10 = $520 per month. If for some reason you have to stop your website, you will still earn the $520 monthly. Isn't that awesome?

Why am I talking about this?

Well, the first answer is that I think it's a good niche, and I would like people to earn money from it.

The second answer is that I am the founder of such SaaS application, and I have decided to create our affiliate program. This series of posts about SaaS applications will be the occasion for me to interact with the community and to learn from you guys.

For instance, our app is still very young, and we don't charge $100/month, but we decided to offer 20% commission to our affiliates. Does that sound fair ?

Services and recurring memberships can definitely be a lucrative way for affiliates to earn residual value on any referral they generate.

A single referral to WA could amount to $1,000's in commissions (and in many cases it does), the $23.50 per month truly starts to add up through time and the better the service is and the more sticky the platform, the more commissions that the affiliate will generate.

And of course WA. Somehow I left out the obvious in my answer below :)

Yeah, when I see the conversion rate you get on WA, I think that it's useless to create an app from the ground up ... it's more lucrative to bring affiliates here :D

Congrats on building such a thriving community. Awesome job Kyle.

Congrats on your first post here :)
You are absolutely correct in defining SaaS as a good niche.
Some of us are scratching the surface of it by being affiliates of Aweber, hosting, and other services that we use ourselves, but there are so much more to grab for the one who wants.
