I Did It!

I Survived The Last Month of Insanity

I survived the last grueling month and got all the authorizations out at work that needed to be done this week. I set a new record for myself and got 12 completed in the last 6 days (I had to work last Sunday to do it).

I survived a 7.0 earthquake on Nov 30th with destruction to our home and business in the midst of this as well. I came to work when most everyone else got to stay home after the earthquake.

I got my work done despite my Adobe not working and my Outlook email not working on my computer at work. I got all the authorizations out to ConocoPhillips even as they called to check up on my progress every day and bug me and seemed to have no sympathy at all for the earthquake caused delays.

I stayed late, was stressed out and not feeling great and getting fed up. My husband got a stomach bug and I managed to escape the worst of it with all my supplements.

My Reward

My reward for all this is that my Section Chief told my boss's boss "She gets brownie points!" today and procedded to make sure he knew I worked 2 days when the office was closed and Sunday to get all this done. I will get comp time and have some extra days of leave to take off when I want later. They are happy to be getting everything out on time since we have a brand new Governor and it makes their job easier if we have a good record to show for our section. It will help us wether the political storms.

I Have a Good Record

I also maintained my record of always getting water use authorizations out to the companies when they need them. I am tough. If they don't really need it or they give me sup-par applications I will say no. If there isn't enough water I will say no. If they may harm fish or wildlife I say no. My bosses all trust me and support me and even the Section Chief offers to step in and remind the oil companies they can't push us around. In Alaska, water is the property of the state. In order to use a significant quantity of water they have to go through us so we make sure there is enough to go around. We strive to never hold up work (and I never have) but we also strive to protect the resources and make sure each user, as well as the wildlife that need the source all have enough. Some large corporations would love to hoard all the water if they could even if they don't need it just to keep out the compitition.

It is truly gratifying when my Section Chief offers to set the oil companies straight!

I have told Conoco, British Petroleum and many others No if neccessary.

Websites Make Money On Auto-Pilot if Properly Set Up for Organic Traffic

Throughout all this, my websites keep getting a trickle of traffic and sales! It is so awesome to see your websites be set up on auto-pilot so they can keep working when you are busy. I can't wait to dive back into the other chores I have like adding content to my site!

This is one reason I am so glad I do not depend on social media for traffic and sales. If I had to be on social media every single day it would be harder to go through periods like the last month when I had little time to devote to my business. With organic search traffic, as long as your posts are ranked well in the search engines, you will keep getting traffic even if you step away and don't do a thing. Of course this will not work for extended periods of time since your activity and ranking will start to slip backwards. It is a lot better than being tied to posting and tweeting every single day however!

Don't Give Up. It Will Be Worth It

So if you are questioning if this is worth it, don't get too discouraged. This is not a way to make money quickly and not a way to suddenly support yourself but it is very worth it. This is THE way to build a business on the side that can steadily grow and turn into something great.

It may take a few years if you are on the slow train like me and work a regular job, but someday this can be a great source of income for you that will keep working even when you don't.

Onward and Upward!

Jessica

Jessica, you are awesome person. You have set backs and important responsibilities and yet you find time to offer support to others.

Giving up is not an option for me and it is not for you either.

Keep moving strong
.
Success is within your reach.

Peace and love

Maxine

Thank you Maxine. I appreciate that. We found more earthquake damage today so it is a bit discouraging. My husband's computer is dead.

My computer and phone were down since 7am morning.
You are my 1st contact today!

I won't give up. Looking forward to the day of autopilot. Hard to get much done when building a website and working.

Well it isn't a whole lot yet but it sure is nice to see the little amounts trickle in no matter what I am doing (or not doing). Thanks.

You are Superwoman! You have been through a lot in the last month, and here you are, still going strong. (Maybe it's partly because you are an Alaskan woman? My "machisma" showing up.) So glad you've pulled through, gotten a little recognition, and might get to rest, sometime!

Thanks Fran. Yes, I suppose so. I was so stressed I just wanted to throw up my hands and say "I can't do this" when my email would't work. We do everything through email. I sent out the agency reviews to DEC and ADF&G by email as well as BLM, the North Slope Borough, Division of Oil and Gas etc. etc. I send the authorizations to the applicants via email as well. It was frustrating.

Hi Jessica, I am so happy to hear you are OK and none the worst from the earthquake, you are truly a champion to be working so hard after the ordeal, I am longing for the day when my site will be able to earn a passive income.

Thank you. It isn't enough to live off of (by a long shot) but every little bit helps.

Hello Jessica,
Sounds like you had a rough week. But women seem to handle it well. Glad things turned out well and you will eventually get your extra days off.
I will have to figure out how to set up my website that way.
Thanks for the update.
Cyn

Thanks Cyn. It takes time but the key is organic traffic (good keywords etc).

I'm happy for you. Your attitude really helped you to weather the storm. It's great to be respected by bosses. Congratulations!
Debbie

Thanks Debbie.

You are a brave and bold woman, my dear. I love your strength and stamina! A wonderful post--full of heartache and yet, integrity. I'm so glad your business kept running without you even there! Great work, Jessica, and I know it will all pay off! xoxo

Happy you are safe and on the path again, to better things!

Erin :)!

Thanks Erin. I am feeling pretty down today as we discover more earthquake damage...I am sure we will make it though.

Hi Jessica,
WOW, Congratulations, you are the best. Dedicated and competent people are missing today in most businesses. You deserve a medal.
Have a great weekend.
Jules

Thank you Jules! You too.

Thanks Jessica. You gave given me hope. Jim

Oh, I am glad Jim. This really does work...it is just a matter of time and persistence.

Jessica,
You are so correct and please never ever give up - dreams
do come true as long as you put in the time and work :)
Congratulations, Jessica, you are one hard working girl.
Susan

Thank you Susan! I am off to the supplement store now...out of some I need. Then home for a well deserved weekend!
