Disappointed in social media results today

I put a ton of time into Twitter and Facebook group posts in the last 24 hours. I thought I would get a few sales for all my effort. No. Not one sale. So, this is a good example of how we need to be careful how we spend our time. I have been wondering this lately. Is it worth it to focus on social media?

If I had put all those hours into creating new content I could have quite a few new posts created on my site (at least 2 or 3). I have my eye on a great long-tail keyword for a higher price item that should be successful for my site. Of course I only review and promote products I actually use so yes, I bought one for my cats! It is a huge cat tree. It is way cheaper on Amazon than anything even close in the stores. It is 6 feet tall so I looked at keywords for cat trees and found a doozy. I can't wait to try it out!

If I put the time into that, I would have more content for organic searches. So, tomorrow I start on more content!!! I must, must, must. Of course there will be other things that come up in real life but for online it needs to be content.

I may likely get a sale or two still from all the social media posts I did tonight. Amazon updates at 11:00 so any sale now will not show up for 24 hours. In the meantime though, on to the content!

Onward and upward!

Jessica

By all means you will get the results but not now.

Thanks.

sm slows down for the weekend - everybody has other things to do
concentrate on sm during the week and your posts at the weekend
frustrating when you put so much effort in to get very little back
hope it picks up for you

That is good to know. Thanks!

Wasting time on social sites rarely get the results everyone thinks they do.

WA is a type of social site and we are all thinking about the same category of stuff..

Spend a little time here and then get to work on that website.

Yes, I agree content should come first. I like organic search traffic best since they know what they are looking for (or at least know what problem they want solved) and therefore are ready to buy. I have had good results from Facebook groups but I don't know if it is worth the time.

That is one fo the many reasons that I do not have a FB account!

I don't have a FB business page, and don't promote my site on my personal page. I just post on other FB group pages in my niche. This is a strategy several have been blogging about here lately since the conversion rate is much higher in FB groups than on regular pages where all the time wasters and social butterflies hang out! The groups are focused on a specific topic so when they ask a question and then I answer and post a link to my site where they can read about my recommendation and click through to Amazon to purchase it, I usually get high conversions.

It still doesn't seem time efficient to me though...I guess the only way the big guys do this successfully is to outsource it!

There certainly is a LOT of outsourcing going on!

Just give it time and your work on social media will show results!

Yes, thanks! The company that makes the supplements I recommend, PetAlive, thanked me on Twitter this morning and retweeted one of my posts!

They don't seem to get too much traffic but its still amazing!

Results from SM are slow but sure at first!

Yes, I will get there!

One thing I have learned you cannot do everything yourself, you would end up losing money. A better option is to get help when needed and if affordable, for example hiring a Social Media VA via Upwork. There's plenty fairly rated and experienced freelancers who would add value to your everyday business activities. It is a consideration worth following upon.

Yes, I can definitely see where that would be smart. For now I think I should be focusing more time on building up content though.

I think you're doing great. There are bound to be a few hiccups here and there. Don't get discouraged. Onward and upward

Yes, thanks Pablo!

you are inspiring

Thank you very much!

That is the problem social media will get you eyeballs quickly but they most likely don't have an immediate need. Traffic from search are more likely to have an immediate need and hence more likely to buy.

I wouldn't rule out social media, but you will find it is a lot longer lead time. End of the day you need to find a balance between the two.

I have had really good results with posting to Facebook groups before. I answer people's questions in the groups (on cat health and behavior topics) and post links to my site with product reviews. I get traffic for several days after posting these so I may still get a sale from that tomorrow.

Most all other time spent on social media seems a waste so far. I had great success last summer with Flipboard but it was short lived. I didn't keep up the momentum. I will not give up on social media but I will focus on content more for now.

I have a close friend who is a travel agent and she gets around 70% of her business through Facebook groups. Just answering questions and being seen as the resident expert.

It is all about getting the right balance. Good luck with it :)

Wow, that is impressive!

It is all about becoming the trusted person in the niche, which she is. I believe a lot of hard work went into getting to that position, just being available and answering questions.
