My real estate class failure
Here in my state, as I'm sure it is in many states, in order to become a real estate agent you must become certified. To do that, you have to take a 7 week course that is packed full of detailed information you MUST learn in order to pass the class exam at the end of the course. Then, if you are one of the very, very few lucky ones to pass the class, you get to move on to take the state exam. And then if you are lucky enough to pass that, congratulations, you are a real estate agent!
Well, I have been through this class 3 times, and I am very sad to report I am not one of the lucky ones. Maybe God is trying to tell me something. Maybe, I really need to focus more on WA and make my business work here instead of chasing the real estate market that may or may not be doing well, depending on your location.
If I work hard enough at it, I would probably make more money with IM than real estate AND I would probably have more "me" time than I would in real estate. Because to watch the real estate agents that I work with and to hear them talk, they have no free time. And if they want to go on a vacation like I want to, they have to move mountains to make that happen (not financially but otherwise)
If you read my previous blog "what is your 'dream' goal that you can make a reality?", I talk about one of my dream goals that I really want to work towards (Take a family vacation to Walt Disney World) and encourage other to find their dream goal too.
After my third failure at trying to become a real estate agent, I became discouraged that this was not gonna happen for me and the chances of my family going to Disney was slim. After snapping out of that depressing moment, I realized I have WA and the vast support of community members that are here to help me along my way should I need guidance.
I am going to make this work. I can't wait to have more and more "me" time.

Hi Susanna
It can be hard sometimes when you throw yourself into something and you come up short . The thing is ,it is not a failure because you have a lot more knowledge than you did before you started the real estate course and if you combine that with the knowledge you are gaining here at WA ,there would be a massive crossover which you could really leverage off . Best wishes for your on going adventures
Alexander
Keep trying at both. One will come through. Try everyday, assess, review, try something new. One will happen when you least expect it. You have a whole family to dream with you to make it reality. ^_~
I've been through a similar experience quite a few years ago. I had spent a few years trying to succeed at something I thought I'd want to do, spent a lot of time and money on courses/training, but when I realized I wasn't enjoying it at all and only getting frustrated with it, I gave it up.
After thinking about what it'd be like to do that job (medical transcription) day in and day out, I realized that no, I don't want that. My heart wasn't in it anymore, it was heading in a new direction.
I'd have to say this experience did help me learn more about computers and a few other things that I needed to learn, but once I discovered WA, I realized that a new door had opened up, which felt "right" to me.
So, in my opinion, do what you feel is best for you, and if your heart is set on the real estate business, go for it. If not, then I'd just let it go. Go for what you feel is "right" for you.
Best wishes in whatever you decide to do. :) Sherry
Yeah, I've actually pondered on the medical transcription thing too. Now I'm glad I didn't as that seems to be moving into more of an editing career than typing and they don't get paid as well as when they did actual typing.
I think in my case I'm looking for that job that will allow me to be independent and not have to work a B&M job. That's why I tried the real estate thing and that's why I am trying WA too.
As an update, I've decided to try this class one more time since I am not going to be charged any additional fees, just time. If I don't make it through this time, I will toss in the towel.
You're right about the medical transcription jobs, they don't usually pay that well, especially for the amount of work you need to put into it, which isn't easy either. Too frustrating to be worth it for myself anyways.
Hey, at least it's only time you'll be spending. Good luck in the class! :)
I am sure you will achieve your goals, sometimes we have to take a detour to get there keep going wish you every success
If you really want your real estate license then continue to go for it. If not it is best to let it go. You know in your heart what is right for you.
Well, sometimes life has a way of closing doors for us because we aren't looking at the door that has already been opened. Looks like you have been shown a different door to walk through. ;) Best wishes to your WA journey!
Sounds like this little talk you just had with yourself and shared will all of us was just what you needed :) LOL
Follow your dreams, and they will in turn follow you :)
In my opinion, and I speak from experience because I hold a real estate license, it is a world that I avoid at all costs now. You are used by your customers and stabbed in the back by your colleagues! Any thing for the almighty dollar that is dirty, has got to be hidden in that industry somewhere. So maybe you were not meant to be put in such an ugly position. Just my opinion!
No just yet, but there are endless opportunities to expand and outsource in this business. With more time, I see making more money through the internet projects I am involved with.

It's two years later - how did you get on Susanna?
I have been back and forth with WA for a few years. I did finally pass my real estate exam and have been a real estate agent for about 1 1/2 years and doing quite well, I might add.
I did not renew my premium membership for a while because at the time I was very busy in real estate and I could not afford it as real estate was my full time job.
I have been lazy working on my marketing business, but now have the desire to make this finally work for me. I love being self employed as an agent and hope I can make marketing work for me just as good, if not better.
I hope I answered your question. Not sure if you wondered where I've been or how I was doing in real estate.
I was interested to find out what happened between then and now and if you were still here at WA. I work in RE admin. Congratulations on passing your exam - good on you for not giving up. I did have my licence here in NZ but let it lapse and now need to redo because I've got a gig with a startup. Flippin' typical! Anyway, good to see you're still around.
