Thanks WA & Need Help With a Question

I have a question, but wanted to say a few things about WA to give my question a little background.

Wealthy Affiliate being described as “The Open Education Project” is so well-earned. As you know, we learn and develop expertise through Kyle’s courses, reading member tutorials, and sharing what we’ve learned through our WA blogs.

This set-up is so beneficial to us members because by "doing" and "teaching" we are solidifying our learning. And, with time and enough practice, these skills become second nature.

What I’ve also come to realize is the benefit of the not-so-obvious ways we’re learning.

All Those Emails:

This is what it must feel like when you have a successful online presence. My copious daily WA mail teaches me what kind of inboxes these folks wake up to everyday.

Having a Following:

We all know that creating regular content for our sites is needed before getting ranked and being blessed with that first organic visitor. This might take a couple months. But, post a WA blog and you can expect some feedback soon after publishing. How great is that!

This feedback gives us a chance to experience, from almost day one of joining WA, how it feels like to write online and get feedback. It also gives us a chance to find our personal way of replying to our “blog” visitors.

Writing:

Now we're getting to my question. I used to write quite a bit when I was growing up. But, when I started working and having a family, there wasn't time. Fortunately, I once again am finding the time. Happy sigh. 😥

And I get to develop my skills in the helpful and safe setting of WA. Happy sigh. 😥

But, like any skill that hasn’t been practiced for a while, it takes effort to whip it back into shape. That's a given.

The bigger issue for me now is just sharing. Since creative writing was originally just for myself, trying to share with anyone today has been tough. For me (others?) it's like public speaking. And, pressing “Publish” is just like walking up to a podium.

So, my rusty and “performance anxiety” riddled self revises a lot. I want my work to present itself in a certain way. Imagine having your first formal holiday dinner party. You want everything to be just right because you want to make a good impression. So, sometimes chairs are rearranged. Or one set of glasses is chosen over another. Or…

Does that make sense?

The Question:

Yesterday, I had a thought. Maybe people are getting multiple copies of my WA blogs because I revise after publishing.

How mortifying for me!!!

How annoying for you!!!

So, here’s my question. If I publish a blog and it gets sent out to you, does it get sent out again if I make a revision and press “Publish” again?

Also, if you have any other pearls of wisdom, feel free to share. Like everyone, just learning as I’m going.

Thanks!

Hitting publish for a post is an exclusive operation. It does not automate with revisions. Marion's advice takes it the rest of the way. It wont take long to get over anxiety Susan. The quality of your content and the core emotions it resonates with in your readers will always carry the day.

Thanks for that, Michael! I do like to poke fun at myself. Had fun with that here. Sometimes life gets so serious that we just have to laugh at ourselves. Hope all is going well with you. Take care!

Good to see you back. Missed you the last week. Never a loss for interesting items in these blog posts. My goal now is to be more of a creator than a commentator.

That sounds like a good plan. Will definitely keep an eye out for your posts. =)

I was also mostly in the comment-er role for a while. Will probably continue that and maybe write a post here once in a while. But, my sites are where I'll be most of the time. That's the challenging part. Balancing all this with the limited time in the day.

Well, gotta run. Off to work I go...

I wondered about exactly the same thing Susan and I'm glad to hear it isn't a problem. Your sentiments about the writing journey echo my own - it's great to get back into writing by practicing on WA members who are so supportive.

Thanks, Erica! Appreciate the comment. Glad you're writing again, too. =)

I edit most of my posts and trainings after publishing. No-one get sent an additional email. That only happens when someone hits "Publish" then deletes the post, rewrites it and uses the same title to "Publish" it again.

Don't delete your posts, just edit them and hit Publish and you'll be fine.

Thanks, Marion! Your input is much appreciated. =)

A very good question Susan, I never thought about it because I wait to publish a post until I have gone over it several times......don't think I've ever re-published after editing. But I would say the answer to your question is, no......remember the post doesn't exist in e-mail. The email is just a notice to all of your followers with a link to your blog post. So it would be no different than editing existing content in a website.......I think.

Hi, Wayne! Thanks for sharing your experience.

And, yes, I understand the rationale for email notices. However, I have received emails for the same post two times in-a-row before. I guess that's what got me thinking. Are WAers getting 2-3+ notices from me? If yes, that would be important to know to avoid in future.

I think Marion has your answer for you, Susan.

Never got a duplicate Susan...Nice post once again! I totally relate to writing again!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Robin! Glad your getting a chance to writing again, too. =)

Hi Susan,
Great post and thanks for sharing your insight. I think many people experience the feeling you mentioned here about the trepidation that's associated with the "publish" button. I do in any case.

With regard to potentially receiving your post twice after updating, that has never happened to me. I am a recipient of my blog posts for a different website and I never received a second one even when I update. It could be the way you set it up, if you do indeed receive every update. In that case, do check your setup.

Best wishes to you.
Chuka

Thanks, Chuka! Appreciate your comment. Feeling much relief. Best wishes to you, too. =)

I honestly do not know the answer to that Susan. All I can say is that I don't remember having an email to tell me about the same blog post more than once :)

Thank you, Jude! So glad to hear that. Whew!
