Shiny New Object Syndrome Almost Killed Me
There I was last week, plugging away at my affiliate site and creating awesome content. I was going through the Affiliate Bootcamp and doing great. When suddenly I came across an ad for a drop shipping business idea. I suddenly felt queasy. I browsed that site for a while and then broke out all over in Shiny New Object Syndrome.
It gets worse.
As I googled about drop shipping, I learned about another new idea I hadn't considered, which was selling on Amazon using FBA. Oh the millions I could make! I was stuck in the fever of Shiny New Object Syndrome for about 3 days. I was feverishly researching Shopify, Amazon, and the hundreds of apps and extensions that would make me successful. But what about my lonely affiliate website. It sat there all alone for those three days. I didn't touch it. I logged into WA everyday of course, but my site was unloved.
I was cured.
During the 3 day bout with SNOS (Shiny New Object Syndrome), I had a sinking feeling about all these new ideas I was pursuing. Each one had something in common. They were all focused on expensive courses, sales funnels and marketing campaigns. These have their place, but the aspect of affiliate marketing and WA I first fell in love with was the idea of creating awesome content that helps people. On that 3rd day when I was neck deep in Alibaba listings and Amazon raking tables, I thought about my lonely affiliate website again. And it brought me a feeling of warmth and joy. I really enjoy writing content. I really love the idea of google bringing me free traffic because I have valuable content on my site. I love the idea that my content is helping people find the service that is best for them. I was cured. That day I logged back into my website and did some work. Then I went through the next module in the Affiliate Bootcamp here at WA. All was right with the world again.
Let my story be a warning
SNOS is a very powerful disease. It can steal you away from the valuable work you had been doing. Inoculate yourself from SNOS by wholeheartedly devoting yourself to your affiliate business and don't be distracted by the latest sales figures from the marketing guru or the latest plugin that promises $20,000 in monthly sales. WA has taught me what works, and I will stick with it.

Agreed. There are so many different kinds of online business models, and some people will feel more at home with one than another. I think it's as much a matter of personality as it is means.
The blog, as modelled here though - that's a writer-teacher-SME's dream come true. Do you love writing? Do you love connecting with people? Do you love the immediacy of offering that kind of in-person service? Blog now!
I know successful online business people who move large shipments of white-labeled goods, but they have next to no profile online, and it suits them just fine. And they would really not enjoy this blogging things, or do well at it.
But I'm sure they've checked it all out, just the same way you've checked out their activities. :)
I agree. It takes all types of people to make our vast and complex economy run well. I'm glad there's a niche for everyone.
