Beware of Googleplus

Hi WA,

I just would like to share a little bit about my first week's experience on Google+

Not even sure if it's appropriate but I didn't want the same thing to happen to anyone else from WA as I've seen the same person in some of your Google+ circles as well.

Since my last blog post about my newly created Google+ account, my number of followers has increased substantially, but most were from fellow WA members. Being cautious, I had intentionally not been adding random persons I see on Google+.

I can't recall where/who I read it from, but I had been sending a thank you message to people who added me into their network and some responded. What happened was that unknowingly I was drawn into a chat by the person at the other end only to realize that they were not from WA.

TELL-TALE SIGNS OF ONLINE SCAMMERS

I've done some online research and been reading about online scams, so here's what I've learnt and also some of my personal observations:

1. Extremely polite

2. Extremely flirtatious and flattering

3. Send you photos and endearing messages

4. Tell you a story to tug at your heartstrings

5. Lure you into trusting them

6. Try to find out about your income/marital status/age/sex life/personal needs

7. Ask you to invest

8. Ask you for help with money

9. Stop replying to your messages when they realize can't get what they want

10. End a conversation abruptly when they think they have been found out or when you say you'd like to call them

11. Profile: Widower, widower with a child, US Army, self-employed, professional

My personal take:

Be VERY CAREFUL and don't waste time socializing with complete strangers on Google+

I'd be wiser spending time with my family and trusted circle of friends, and helping the community at WA.

Thanks for reading!

~ Sue

Not Just scammers; Also watch out for "1984" The concept George Orwell prophesied.

Do some research on it..

Thanks, Robert.
Did some research and will be even more careful than ever.

Yes Sue and this can be very annoying. I normally just delete their existence. Thanks for putting it down. Take care. :)

Thanks for sharing. I do encounter people not frm wa that added me. Initially, when i first started i was innocent as a dove and added ppl who added me thinking they must b frm ppl in wa, otherwise, how wud they find me. Later, i got smarter to check their profile 1st before adding. In social media networking it attracts all sorts of people. We just hv to try our best to b discreet n not entertain thoughts of wanting to get rich quick. I hv recently posted an article on hw google+ can increase ur search ranking n bring traffic to ur site.

Thanks so much for sharing, Joseph.
I will spend some time to read your post. It really looks amazing!

Thanks for sharing your experience, however, I don't think this should stop you from meeting people on social media by extention google+. What this shows is that we need to be more careful especially when conversations becomes personal. From time to time you will get the odd person who is bold enough to try a scam......but just be cautious at all times, don't let your guard down and do continue to meet people and share ideas likes and dislikes. I think for the most part this is what social media is about.
Divine Blessings

great advice. Same goes for Facebook or any of the others.

Excellent article Sue. All these points apply for online dating :). so if any one choose to try there be very careful too.

Thank you Sue.

I have found the same type people on G+ I then posted and notified everyone what they where. That really is all we can do.

I'll be aware of this. I haven't used Google+ very much. Pinterest is my main turn to right now

Thanks for the heads-up Sue. You're right, stay on the WA pages.....can't go wrong here. Everyone is here for one reason only, to learn all about Internet marketing. Blessings......
Shirley
