A few months ago, I heard somewhere that adding a video to your website was GOOD. However, changes and updates (Panda, Penguin, Hummingbird) happen quite often. This SEO thing can be utterly mind boggling at times! Okay so now some of us are curious to know "Is It A Good Idea To Add Videos To Your Websites?" Happy Holidays

again, ref comment below.
eg If you are doing a training program for a complex field, you may need many vids.
I'm thinking 'good'...all comes done to content as far as I can tell, & video is content. If the video is not appropiate/does not match your written content - don't put it on...
Think 'suitable'
Another question I have is: How big of a difference does it make to produce your own videos VS embedding someone else's video into your website?
Depends on you as a product I would suggest.
Personally I think you have way more control of your brand if you produce your vids etc personally.
Outsourcing is all the rage currently, though How hard is it to reinforce your 'brand' without being hands on?
I wish to do vids, though know nothing yet...
The tools are there now, you can choose to learn or find someone who can see your vision...
A great, relevant video can only enhance your page. I would think one per post would be sufficient, however I suppose it depends on what the post is about!
I have a YouTube channel because I cover the Orlando theme parks for my Examiner column. I embed them in Examiner articles, but I've also discovered that I make money from people just finding them on YouTube (they're all monetized). Video isn't appropriate for all the websites I'm creating via WA, but I'll definitely add it to the ones where it's a good fit. It's another method of monetization. I don't get rich from my videos, but it puts gas in the car.
As other people have said, adding videos can be great if they are relevant to the post. Many people enjoy visuals which is why you see so many pictures and videos in lots of the training. Also keeps them from getting bored by reading lots of stuff. I currently do not make any videos but I embed a few from youtube. In regards to how many to have per post remember that you don't want the page to take a long time to load. Lots of media might also distract from your actual post which is what you want people to actually look at if they are at your site i assume =). I cant imagine that a goodle update would ever occur where videos become a bad thing, just helps you engage visitors better.
Video marketing is a great way to get traffic to your site. When you post your video, it should also have the relevant keywords in your blog. As people are reviewing your blog they are watching your video and your rankings are going up. I have videos that have ranked before my blog... which is fine because, if they go to my video for a key word, I have my blog and/or a capture page there for them.
As for the max videos.. in the past I have done product reviews where, I have had 2 or 3.. that was only because I was giving people steps on how to use the product. But if you are doing a single blog post, I would recommend just one..
my thoughts... but I love videos...although I hate seeing myself on camera...
I have one video on each page/post. Except for maybe one page/post where I have two videos. Thanks for the comment.
I am no expert on this, but I believe it is a good thing. Only if the video is relevant of course. Are you looking to make your own videos? Because If you are I personally think it's a great thing. Shows people that you know what you are talking about and it becomes more personal. If you are going to create your own videos you can also upload them to you tube and gain traffic to your site my leaving a link in the description. Also YouTube videos rank well in Google searches so your video might help you show up on the 1st page of Google. Hope this helps and hope I am not completely wrong!
Sounds good. Thanks for the quick response. Yes I am looking to begin making my own videos in the near future.

It is definitely a good thing if it's relevant. If it wasn't a good thing I doubt Google would have given me a SERP on Pg 1
Is it your own video or did you embed a video from YouTube? Thanks for responding.
No it was a WA video which was an affiliate link as well, for my page which was describing how easy it is to build a website here at WA
