Our wonderful trip to Peru

Paulette and I received a rich blessing when we visited Peru with our friends from Boquete, Panama, Eric Ruple and Wande Ruple. They had planned a trip and graciously allowed us to tag along. The above picture is of us above the Sacred Valley, outside Cusco. We landed at the Cusco airport which is at 11,500 feet elevation. They tell you when you arrive to plan on at least a day just to get used to the altitude. But there is so much to see, it is hard to stay still.

The Incas were amazing engineers and builders. They built stone walls over 500 years ago with no mortar that still stand today. They understood principles of irrigation. They appreciated the value of land and made use of every square inch through massive terraces.

If you want to experience altitude, visit Peru. We were on a bus at 16,050 feet! We stopped by a large lake above the tree-line where thousands of pink flamingos live. We visited Lake Titicaca which is the highest navigable lake in the world. It is the size of Puerto Rico at 12,500 feet.

South America offers so many benefits to North American retirees. Don't settle for a mundane retirement. You can travel to and live in South America for much less than you can in the USA.

Beautiful and inspiring. It's refreshing to me!

You post expresses how you enjoyed Peru and the Sacred Valley in particular. May you be refreshed and energised for many days ahead.

Pretty awesome post, Steve! I have an ex-Brother in law who says he lives like a king in Costa Rica for a pittance! Nice scenery in that picture!

Jeff

Costa Rica is at least twice as expensive as where we live in Medellin, Colombia. Of course, it depends on where you live and your lifestyle. We tried San Jose, CR and we hated it after just a few days. Boring, nothing to do, no convenient public transportation, and more expensive than any place we had been.

In Medellin, we can get anywhere in the city on a bus or Metro for under $1. Cab or Uber rides are $2-3. Fast dependable internet, food is great, and the people are attractive and friendly.

That's good information to know, Steve! Thanks for sharing!

Jeff

Really? I lived in Costa Rica for 8 months. Yes. Expensive. But public transportation was plentiful and so were taxis and Uber. Love that place.

Where we lived in San Jose, it was about 5 blocks uphill to where we could catch a bus. And all of our taxi and Uber fares were much more expensive.

Here in Medellin, I don't see any fares for more than $3 and the bus to anywhere is 2 blocks. And there is an escalator for part of the walk uphill.😀

Ahhh, where I live we had a bus stop a block from our house, but we were able to walk to most places we wanted to go....and taxis and Ubers were available if we needed to carry things and didn't want to walk....
