Is it a good idea to buy domain on your name?
I have found out several Internet Marketers having website on their own names... the concept is cool and eventually if site becomes popular, the name would be a brand.
What do you think about this concept? Is it really a good idea as a name is just a name and it does not make readers ( visitors) understand that the site is all about... so what you guys think about it?
If we take the example of Wealthy Affiliate, on the first impression itself, we can understand this is a website may be deals with affiliate marketing, right?

I bought the domain with http://myname.com even when I am not using it right now, for a few bucks a year.
I can see the value of using http://myname.com when I get established as a somewhat successful Internet Marketer.
I would only get it now if your name is fairly common, else you can always get it when you need it.

I had a personal blog entitled (domain name) after my name and Jay (Magistudios) suggested I do with it exactly what you've found. Doing this helps you brand your name and allows you to not be limited more rigidly to a chosen domain name that closer represents a niche.
It is the only website I've ever created wherein I've made an online income. This is not to say a niche site with a name associated with the niche won't nor a site with your name branded would, just that either way, it works. I am quite happy with my site, danieleuergetes.com. Another, right off the bat, is a website I've subscribed to - rushlimbaugh dot com, is another example.

Sorry I have not gotten back with you to answer your question. Heavy into other projects and is why I'm heavily into them - to get them done and reduce distraction.
It is, to date, the only website I've ever made money with. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond my control took me away from my business and income from it has dropped, but since it began almost three years ago, has been an unbroken income.
The strategies I'm using right now is, to kind of go back to starting from scratch and removing what has been causing the poor results in my efforts with IM. By now, long by now, this should have been a full-time income.
But I will re-iterate that a website with my name as the domain, is the only one that has made me money and the first place I have ever made a dime at all. In lieu of this, Wealthy Affiliate is the first place I have ever been, where making money on the Internet has become a reality for me.
