Low QSR IS a Good Thing !

I recently posed a question regarding search volume and QSR, and I received some great answers from a group of helpful friends. Their answers cleared up the confusion in my mind, and I considered it worthwhile to expand on this topic, Just in case there are a few other newbies out there who may also be a bit confused as I was.

Here's what prompted my question in the first place :

* I read the responses given to some folks who asked why they had very little or no success with their websites despite a low QSR keyword, and the answers given invariably eluded to the fact that a low QSR could be indicative of the fact that nobody else is making money from it and it is therefore not considered to be a lucrative keyword.

* In my befuddled mind I totally misconstrued their answers, and focused solely on the QSR issue, and did not even think about the search volume associated with it. Duhh !!

* It stands to reason that some keywords will have a low QSR specifically because nobody is searching for that keyword or search term.

* Low search volume + low QSR = Not good !! However, High search volume + Low QSR = very Good !! (There are some exceptions to this rule, but it will be covered in the classes)

The lesson I learned from this is to always look at the whole picture, and not just at certain aspects in isolation, because chances are that you can easily get confused just like me.

Bottom line : Go for keywords with a high search volume and a low QSR. (Just make sure it makes human sense, as explained by Kyle) Pay attention to what we are told in the classes and dont jump at conclusions like me !!

My sincere thanks to everyone who participated in this discussion.

I did a little experimenting over the weekend on some of my articles on my site. I randomly chose a group of words in the article that looked like it may make a good keyword/phrase. Low and behold, many of the phrases I chose had great QSR & high search results.

The point I'm making out is, I used these phrases while writing naturally, I didn't research them. I think if you write naturally & intuitively the article will get ranked on it's own merits.

Now I'm not saying keyword research is unnecessary, every little bit of help is important. As my experiment proved, I was putting in keywords without even realising it.

Hey Jay,
Thanks for the comment man. Much appreciated.
just a thought though : I suppose it would make sense to use those new found keywords/phrases in follow-up articles, right ?
Its not good to alter or edit an existing post with new keywords, but use it in subsequent posts about the same topic.... Or am I totally wrong ?
Thanks for the handy tip my friend.

Well no, I'd not use them twice, I would imagine overusing the same keywords could go against you. I was just testing a theory that quality content will create keywords by themselves and it appears to ring true. Whether it's always the case is another matter.

we will get it together one way or another cheers Helen

Right on Helen. Thanks for your interest.
Have a great weekend.

Thanks for sharing. I have only been searching for low QSR and ignoring everything else. Maybe that is why my page isn't ranking in google (its somewhere beyond page 5). My niche either has low search and low qsr or high search high QSR. I can't seem to find the high search low QSR keywords...

Hi Tanya,
Just a suggestion if I may...
Find some additional keywords/search terms when you do follow-up blogs, and look for high volume low qsr keywords.
Follow the lesson by Kyle on "alphabet soup" and low hanging fruit keywords.
All the best.

Thanks. I have been trying the alphabet soup method but not having much luck with that either. I think I need to come up with some more interesting things to write about.

I suggest to follow a strategy where you think about what you would like to write about, but then do a thorough keyword search first before you start writing.
Also, try to imagine what actual words people will type in when they do an online search about the topic you want to write about.
If we could all become mind readers and know before hand exactly what people will be typing in, then it will be soooo easy, right ? LoL
Good luck to you.

Thanks again for your suggestions. I do look at keywords before I begin writing. But I think I am looking at it from the wrong angle and not in the eyes of the reader, or the person looking for answers. I need to work on that.

Thanks for clearing that up buddy!

My pleasure. Hope it will help to stop others from making the same mistake.
