My name is Jess. My username is SocEnt, which stands for social entrepreneur. I want to use business profits to create positive change in my community. The handsome gent in my profile picture with me is my wonderful boyfriend, Brian. He has a 4 year old daughter, Layla, from a previous relationship that is such a treasure and I adore that little girl. I don't have kids of my own yet... I never really wanted to bring kids into this world until I could provide for them properly.
Originally from Upstate New York farm country but now live in Hampton Roads, Virginia. I was in the US Navy for 6 years (2005-2011). Had planned on doing the full 20 years and retiring at 38, but life had other plans for me. I broke my knee and messed up my lower back, so I was medically retired at 24 years old. I struggled for a while trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life now. So, I found myself volunteering at local homeless shelters and support organizations and I realized that I wanted to help prevent the homelessness from ever happening in the first place. Specifically, I wanted to help prevent veteran homelessness. It really has become a passion of mine and I am working to build a business around this passion. (Haven't quite figured this part out yet, but I am confident that I will =)
New to online business. Full time college student getting ready to graduate in a few months, start my Masters Degree, and would like to start a business instead of looking for a job. Had started a blog of my own but haven't had the results I wanted and don't really feel like the content that I have been putting out is "authentically me". I feel like deep down I am a little nervous to really put myself out there. Not quite sure if the business idea I have right now is really what I want to stick with. Guess I am little all over the place right now, which is why I am here =)
SocEnt's Goals 3
1) Right now, I would be happy to make about $3,000/month to cover basic expenses
2) Ecstatic money to me would be $20,000+/month
3) 20ish hours per week right now is spent as a full-time college student. Besides sleeping and eating I can put the rest of my energy into this =)
