Daily Facts - Day #7: Your actual traffic from the 1st Google page
There's a saying: the best place to hide a body is the second page on Google ...
Unfortunately it's true :(
This is why we are working so hard to grab a position on that podium ... And we've seen a lot of times that is completely achievable!
That's the good news.
The bad news?
Obviously, the higher your page is, the more traffic you'll get. That's perfectly logical.
What is simply hair-raising - at least in my opinion -, is the huge percentage difference between these positions.
While the 1st position means a 32.5% average traffic share, the 10th position will generate only 2.4%!
So that's the bad news my friends ... Landing on the 1st page is definitely a huge accomplishment, but isn't enough. You need to make your way to the top!
And here's the full chart ... According to Search Engine Watch ...
1st position = 32.5% average traffic share
2nd position = 17.6% average traffic share
3rd position = 11.4% average traffic share
4th position = 8.1% average traffic share
5th position = 6.1% average traffic share
6th position = 4.4% average traffic share
7th position = 3.5% average traffic share
8th position = 3.1% average traffic share
9th position = 2.6% average traffic share
10th position = 2.4% average traffic share
Which also means, that EVERYTHING else - starting with the 2nd SERP page and ending with last one - will get only 8.3%!
As I said, I think that these figures are simply hair-raising.
What is your opinion?

Thanks for sharing this.
Although i'm a bit sceptical about this.
What were your sources for this , how did you get the google algorithmes which show these results?
On the other hand , i know you're a WA member with experience of which i value his opinion. So i will not let these figures let me down.
Have an out of the world weekend ( or what left of it)
with regards,
Kurt
Good questions Kurt!
These figures have been published by Search Engine Watch, a respected SEO industry leader. (I'll update the post right now).
And obviously, has nothing to do with cracking the Google algoritm. Is a case study that analyzed hundred of thousands of websites, traffic sources, etc.
Thanks for clearing that out :-)
Seems like an interesting source to look at.
With regards,
Kurt

Just keep reading John ... That's more important to me than an appointment with Tony Robbins :)
Thanks for your time and your feedback!
That's means it better to use high avg traffic keywords. From high traffic number disperse into my website which is somewhere at page 5 of search results. I will still get some click or two.
If I think about it for too long, it feels a little demoralizing. I agree with Jennifer. I need to post lots more articles!
Thank you for sharing this valuable information.
I think I better get writing and doing my research. lol
Thanks
Jennifer
Hmmm I thought the 1st position wouldve had more clicks than that!
I have a question, it's relatedto this. But so far my website has not had any clicks from the pages I do have I ranked in according to Google Analytics, yet according to my WA stats I am getting some unique clicks on my affiliate links.
Do you know how this is possible?
Thanks for sharing!
Chris
Thanks for you feedeback Christopher,
I don't really understand your question :( Could you please rephrase it?
Haha sure!
So my website has not had any click through in weeks.
Yet this week I've had like 20 unique clicks on my affiliate links In my Wealthy affiliate review.
If I haven't had people click through to my website in weeks how is this possible?
Chris

It is worth to be among the top ten positions, then the worst part will come. Try to stay through time on the first page. For me, the most competitive thing is to achieve it with general keywords. They are the ones that bring a lot of visitors to our website.
Thanks for the input Claudio!
