Daily Facts - Day #42: Billion dollar niches - Golf
As I already said, one of the best industries that you can get into when you’re getting started building an online business is one that is driven by emotion.
And is even better if you’re able to build a business that is populated by people that have large amounts of expendable cash and do not mind spending it on the gear they need to participate.
Well, golf is one of those industries.
People that play golf absolutely love the sport, and are more than happy to spend thousands of dollars on clothing, clubs, balls, shoes, trips, memberships, and other things to help them enjoy the game even more.
This $25 billion dollar industry is heavily populated with middle to upper class level people. There’s so much money in the industry, in fact, that entire neighborhoods are built around golf courses, with houses surrounding each hole on the course itself.
It’s also an industry that has seen amazing growth, and continues to rise on a yearly basis.
With participants always trying to improve their game, the amount of money that they’ll spend on new gear is almost endless. When you couple that with the fact that a large number of people enjoy traveling to different golf courses around the world, there are countless opportunities to make money.
With so much gear available, there are thousands of different “buyer” related keywords.
Keywords that people are searching for while having their wallet in their hand, ready to purchase something. That makes it easy for you to turn them into cold hard cash in your pocket.
According to BrandBuilders ...
- The golf industry has been around for 600 years, or more, and is continuing to show growth year, after year ... Even during tough economic times ...
- More than 2 million newcomers are taking up the sport every year.
- More than 73% of people that play golf have played for more than 3 years.
- Men make up 60% of the market, with women claiming 40% of the share.
- More than 7 million people participate off of a golf course, playing at driving ranges, spending time in the clubhouse, and playing simulators.
Long story short: making money in the golf industry is easy, primarily because participants are so eager to spend the money they have in order to one-up their buddies, family, and friends ...
If you are looking for a new niche, this could be a very good choice!
Do you agree?

Wonder if that goes for disc golf. My grandson is into that as well as golf, it seems to be a big thing for the younger generation...
Great post thoughts Zed.
Thanks for sharing Zed! If I had even a dram of interest in the sport I would consider it as my Dad was an avid golfer and travelled to Scotland to play. I hope you didn't flood the niche at WA! ;-]
Great idea! I'm retired and play golf but I still didn't think of this niche. Thanks for all your information and research.
Golf is HUGE in Scottsdale, AZ, where we lived before moving here. Golf stuff is everywhere. Agree with you completely!
Thanks for more fascinating facts!

I have been playing golf for 50 of my 56 years. Golfers are the most gullible buyers In the world. They will pay $500 for a club that is just like the one that came out last year if it promises they can hit it 10 yards further. Only about 1% of golfers worldwide can even shoot in the 80's. I shoot 76 wherever I play, had my hole-in-one and still play with the same irons I had twenty years ago. A GREAT niche!
I am going to include a golfers workout section in my personal training niche. They buy that up too. Did it for years for the old timers to help them stay flexible thru the hips and shoulders. My best tip was to swing a weighted club very slowly. Had many referrals.
Yeah, I totally agree. Not the best time to be promoting golf in Ontario, Canada though. Thanks for the share
I totally agree. I was telling my little brother about this niche as we were driving past a golf course the other day. I said "look at all of these people, how much money do you think we're driving past right now?" Haha He said the answer is "a lot".
Most average people don't have the money to afford it even as a hobby. But the ones who do play are obsessed beyond belief. They will always buy the newest. latest, most improved golf tee if they think it will cut one stroke off their game.
