Daily Facts - Day #36: Billion dollar niches - Smartphone apps & games
Nearly every adult in the western world has a smartphone within arm’s reach 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days a year.
So yes, I knew that is a very popular niche ...
But I have to admit, I was really suprised to see its size ...
It's a relatively new market, still, according to BrandBuilders ...
- The smartphone apps & games market is a market with people spending more than $143 billion in it every single year!
- There are more than 2 billion people in the market, performing more than 180 billion app downloads every single year!
- More than $10 billion has been spent in the Apple App Store alone, with more than $77 billion being spent in other marketplaces each year!
And the real power of this niche:
- The market is split evenly between men and women.
- When it comes to making money from the app industry, you don’t have to solely focus on getting people to download the apps specifically. You can also sell other gear, like smartphone protectors, stylus, new electronic devices, and subscriptions to services.
- Also, people that are interested in downloading new apps for their phones may also be interested in online gaming, smartphones, electronic devices, technology conferences, seminars, Android, Apple, Kindle, etc.
The bottom line ... I'd say that this is a another precious gemstone ...
Do you agree?

Well the downside to this is that Apple removed all their apps from their affiliate program and the only thing left on it is music, books, movies and TV shows. This went into effect in August.
But the electronic niche itself is so massive its such a profitable niche. I ran into one the other day that was about nothing but microphones.
Yep! No problem. One of my websites is in the fitness niche so I thought hey fitness apps, then they changed their program terms. Just another reason to not put all your eggs in one basket and diversify your income.

I hear it's easier to create your own app now. I'll look into it further but I still think you need to understand the programming language and structure at least. I did a basic course on Udemy for web development and programming. I look forward to learning more about building apps once I replace my income.
Thanks for your feedback Daniel!
