Daily Facts - Day #28: How important is your site speed & performance?
So ... Here's the question: how important is your site speed & performance?
And here are the answers ...
1 in 4 visitors will abandon the website if it takes more than 4 seconds to load
74% of mobile users will leave a website if it takes longer than 5 seconds to load
47% of ecommerce customers expect page load times of less than 2 seconds before they consider leaving
40% of users would abandon the site at the third second of waiting, before a performance analytics tool even captures their presence on the site!
46% of users won’t revisit poorly performing websites
Website owners have less than 5 seconds to engage visitors before they consider leaving
The average peak load time for conversions is around 2 seconds
Every 100 ms increase in load time of Amazon.com decreased sales by 1%!
Every one-second delay in page load time could lead to $1.6 billion in annual losses for online merchants as big as Amazon
Walmart saw 2% increase in conversion rates for every 1 second improvement in page load times
Google found that moving from a 10-result page loading in 0.4 seconds to a 30-result page loading in 0.9 seconds decreased traffic and ad revenues by 20%
When the home page of Google Maps was reduced from 100KB to 80KB, traffic went up 10% in the first week, and an additional 25% in the following three weeks
88% of internet users choose online retailers delivering high-performance and user-friendly website experience, and almost 50% abandon websites that fail to load within 3 seconds
79% of dissatisfied customers no longer revisit underperforming websites
46% of dissatisfied customers develop a lasting negative impression and 44% share their shopping experiences with the rest of the world
A 2-second delay during a sales transaction results in abandonment rates of up to 87%!
Well, I'd say that is VERY important!
Do you agree?
BTW ... I just published a speed optimization tutorial. Here it is ...

Thank you for this! Site speed is exactly what I had my head buried in learning the ins and outs of the past two days. I'm not sure how much progress I made but definitely added it to my long to do list to dig further into and make the tweaks. I am definitely saving and reading your post.
Great and relevant info Jed as my site is really slow at the moment and I am trying to fix it.Your attached link should help. Thanks mate :))
Totally agree speed is important. Mine are pretty low some in orange and red even. Is there a plugin that I may use to speed up these speeds. Thanks Zed.
Oh by the way anyone please feel to share your opinions
Hi Zed, I did go through your pages and I thank you for the links you have provided, much appreciated. You have got to know however basic this may be to you, your insights for me as a novice is still hard to comprehend. You may be thinking to yourself, "What the heck is he talking about, I have left him with all these tools and he still having problems". That is ok Zed. If you ever visit my website, you may be able to understand. You are giving out great insights, but you are blindfolded to my lack of knowledge in this area. I really do not think there are too many automotive technicians, that will be match my knowledge as to repairing or even re- building an automobile or light truck. Yes, this is being extremely arrogant of me, but if you ask anyone of my customers or friends, they will tell you that I am a humble person. If I do not do the basic function of, hearing all I can hear about the problem from the customer I am in the dark. Then going out out to his car and listening to the components, feeling what is cold and hot, do they meet the parameters, smell is there gas leak, etc or any other leaks that may not be visual. Then perform a drive ability test. This person is going to be paying a lot of money for all of my diagnostic tools, and not for my basic understanding. I think something like this should go out to all the ambassadors offering help. Yes, I am coming to the end of my dialogue. I thank you for reading all of my release of frustration. I do apologize if in any way, I have not acknowledged all of your contributions you have given to me and helping me, and others in the WA community. Thank you Zed.
You don't need to apologize Michael!
Believe me, the last thing I want to generate with these materials is to generate frustration :)
I think you are just too hard on yourself ... The fact that certain things are new to you, doesn't mean that they are not for you!
Everything is hard before is easy.
Believe me, I haven't learned these things in a few months ...
Great information Zed. I wonder if this is revealing just what an impatient lot humans have become. Jim
Thank you for sharing this Zed.
I think this is one of the most important elements on a website these days - for ranking as well as for conversion and engagement. Unfortunately I find it very challenging to achieve below 3s page load.
If others can share what is the latest page speed they got on their site(s) that would be appreciated.
:)Joe
Thanks for stepping by Joe!
I agree, getting below 3 seconds is extremely hard, especially if you haven't reached the gap of death (mentioned in the tutorial) in the development phase.
But I can give you one outstanding example ... One or two weeks ago I saw a speed test from Marion Black ... I mean her site ...
And she has around 570ms or something like that ... Which is jaw-dropping ... And I also remember, that she said once that she has dozens of plugins installed ...
So is possible ...
