Dazed and Confused. Am I Alone here?
I'm not sure if I'm the only person here that is dazed and confused. I'm approaching lesson 6, and still haven't completed a website. I followed the instructions, and asked every question about every subject I didn't completely understand. I don't know if I'm just lame as hell, or slow. Amongst my confusion, here are some of the mysteries I can't figure out. When I pick my niche, how much knowledge do I have to cover to gain my audiences attention? How do I know who and how to guide traffic towards affiliate site. How do I know who affiliate sites are? Where and how do I introduce them to my website? How does all of this actually make you money? I have to give a few "shot outs" to Littlevideoguy and Rwboucher who has made these task a little less confusing. I beating myself up guys. Am I'm alone here?

Hi Angela, you are not alone! And, in my humble opinion, a mature website takes time to develop. It won't necessarily be finished by the time you complete the lessons. If you think about it, websites are about new content...so are they ever really "done"? Take some time to look at some members websites by giving feedback and comments through the site management tool on WA. You'll get exposed to a lot of members websites...that may help answer some of your questions. Keep asking! It's the best way to learn
Angela, I am happy to help. Everyone who arrives here comes with varying degrees of knowledge regarding getting setup to make money online. I am certain that you are not alone in feeling a bit overwhelmed and confused.
I had many failed attempts to make money online in my background before I arrived here. I still found things to be a bit overwhelming, partially because I wanted to rush through the early steps and get to the "making money" part. But "slow and steady wins the race."
To answer some of your questions. Don't feel like you need to be an "expert" in your niche. You will need some knowledge of it to write content for your webpages and blog posts, but you will also be able to research future topics that you might want to write about. It generally takes a bit of time for search engines like Google to start ranking your website near the top of search results, but the courses cover topics like search engine optimization as well.
Regarding affiliate links, a general site such as Amazon likely has pet products that you can recommend to your site visitors and there may be online pet supply stores with affiliate programs that you can participate in. This is where "making money" comes in to play - when you direct your visitors to a merchants site through your affiliate links and your visitors make purchases on those sites. The merchant will pay you a commission for providing them with a customer. Don't worry about these things though until they come up in the courses/lessons. It sounds like at the moment you just need to get your website with some pages of content up and running.
Hope this helps!
Robert
Also, what affiliate sites gives you the permission to work with them, and how do you get that permission? Are their contracts involved?
Exactly. Each affiliate program will have terms and conditions that you will need to agree to when you sign up. Some will have an approval process and with some becoming an affiliate is pretty much automatic. This info may help: List of Affiliate Networks you will need as Internet Marketing
Take a deep breath, sit back and continue lessons. Repeat as needed. You are not alone but it may help if you ask a more specific question.
Girl, if I could get as far as knowing how to specifically ask the questions, I would, lol.
I will give it a go though. Question 1- I understand a niche is a subject, or attraction most people need a solution to. You build a website around the resources that you know about the subject at hand?
Correct. Do research to increase your knowledge. If your niche is to help others, look at the problem from as many points of view as you can imagine and ask yourself as many questions as you can think of. I know what you mean about not even knowing enough to come up with the questions, but keep following the training and don't try to jump ahead. Only bite off what you can chew. I have made the mistake of trying to go further than I was ready to. What Alyssa says in her reply to you is absolutely correct.
Breathe, read, watch videos...it will come.
