Lately my Gmail account has been under attack by Phishing emails and even emails sent to me from a website that I had unsubscribed from. The first email I tried to post a Picture but the size was 6.8 MB and thelimit is 5 MB so I will just post what the email states.

Hey Dear Customer Alert: We are sorry to notify you that your gmail.com account is about to be removed from our database due to inactivity, your account is still active? Your feedback always matters. Anyway it goes on to tell me to reply to this message stating that they are the Gmail team.

So I used a tool that is on the web IP Lookup and here are the result's, Results for IP 212.83.51.126

Hostname

N/A

IP

212.83.51.126

Domain

N/A

Organization

Serverhousing - Hosting - IT-Services

Location

Germany

The other message which I tracked back to India was a email from a website that I unsubscribed from and when I hit reply it automatically populated the email with 3 Viruses that would have infected my windows PC,fortunately I use Linux so I doubt the viruses would have worked but I deleted the email and then deleted it from the deleted folder.

Once again Virus protection can only do so much, it comes down to YOU the user to be diligent and protect your self. To find this type ofinformation just reply to the email and on the top right of the email is a drop down arrow and you select show original message and it will give you all the info you need to track down this scum bag.

Also always look at who is sending the message, that will tell you right off that it is a phishing email and hopefully Gmail will send this message to your spam folder. But you have to check your spam folder because Gmail is not perfect and emails that you really need can and will end up in your spam folder, so when you get those great job offers just follow the steps above and you can find out where the email originated from.

I will try and be more consistent with daily emails to try and keep you safe on the internet, remember the internet was designed to share information and we have not even talked about social media.

Thanks and have a Blessed Day!

Steven Fowler

Caution is always necessary for anyone online. Scammers are ahead of legitimate users, so we all should be careful. Hope the damage is not much.

Thanks! Its true virus protection can only do so much. We have to be the diligent ones.

Thanks for sharing!

I receive a number of emails requesting I submit login details. Be very cautious.
Be aware, they catch unwary people out.

Thanks for sharing this, Steven.

Thankfully, most of the spam and phishing emails are obviously fake so can be deleted without opening - you can just see them in the reading pane without opening.

It surprises me me that most of these hackers have the technology skills to create a virus entry logic but not the basic common sense to conjure up an email that looks real.

Success and safety to us all!

Terry

Thanks for the information. I will have to keep looking out all the time. All the best.

Thanks Steven for this information. My major email address is so full of WA emails, there is probably no more room for others, tee hee.
Cheers Jae ☺

Thanks for the info, Steve. Carol

Thanks for the great information.

I have a gmail address, relatively new, that I use to purchase and subscribe to ecommerce products being offered on places like jvzoo. That email is like, having unprotected email relations with so many lists right now.

I have another much older address, over a decade old, that gets next to nothing in spam, but the new email which is being used to sample ecomm offerings is just getting hammered with spam. And all the phishing, so desperate, omg.

The relative worthlessness of some of the digital products on offer, and the amount of spam that each new purchase generates suggests to me that the primary purpose of that kind of B2B activity is to gather and sell info, and phish for more.

So far as phishing goes, those are pretty low, straightforward cons. But it’s the more complex attacks from multiple points that will really undermine people.

Sounds like you're quite adept at doing research on your own. Most folks don't know to do a WHOIS or IP address lookup to find the source of a potentially malicious email.

Thank you for sharing! Spammers are constantly looking for ways to circumvent filters and anti-virus so a couple common methods they use is spoofing and social engineering. They're trying to get the user to trust them enough to click on a bad link.

I appreciate you taking the time to post this. Have a great evening!
