Is it absolutely necessary to have anti-spam on your site? And does it slow your site down?

Howdy! Both Abie and Frank have you covered.

Hi Celina

I don't use an anti-spam plugin.
However, you may want to use a contact form to answer inquiries instead of giving out your website email address.

@FrankB-1 Thank you. I have WP forms for my contact. I got sidetracked in training and decided I needed anti-spam. I purchased it its by Clean Talk . Think I am going to just disable it at this point.

Hi Celina

You can always re-enable it if you start getting a lot of spam. 😎

Furthermore, to know they're clean-coded

You may check reviews and ratings, user reviews, etc.
How many active installations?
Are the plugins regularly getting updated?
Are they compatible with other plugins or themes?
What about the Developer's Reputation?
Also, support and docs, Code reviews, performance impact, and security.

It's not absolutely necessary, no, but it helps. And really depends on what you want it for. For example, I use CAPTCHA on forums.

Also, if the plugins are clean-coded, that should not be an issue.

You can use this WP Armour.

@TheAbiePPlus yes , i don't think i really need it and I am not sure about the coding of this plugin. So I'm just gonna disable it and maybe uninstall it. Clear talk antispam and blogto social were bringing down my site speeds, not a lot but enough.

You can try this plugin instead for socials; I use the free version.

You do not have to worry about the coding; all I was saying is that if the coding made by the developers (not you) is clean-coded, then it shouldn't be an issue.

If your position changes, you may consider alternatives.

Thank you!

You are indeed very welcome, Celina!
