Whenever you change your theme or do a Wordpress Update on an existing theme, any code that you added or changed in your Editor will disappear.
Before you change or update your theme, always copy and paste onto Notepad, any coding you added and then when you change or update your theme, you can just go into Header or Footer or wherever and add back in the codes.
I do not add the Google analytics code or Google webmaster tools code manually in my Header anymore. There is a place in the All in One SEO where you add your Analytics code and Google Webmaster tools code. But ... Sean, if you insist on adding the codes to your header, there is a plugin for that too: http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-add-header-and-footer-code-in-wordpress/ this method too will help ensure that when you change your theme the codes will not be overwritten.
True. He was only asking about Google Analytics code. He didn't mention doing a lot of other coding like others might do on their themes. So, All in One SEO already has the fields built-in.
I added Google Analytics codes manually to my header for years. Just decided to let All in One SEO handle it, since I already use it.
I know that there are multiple ways to do things in WordPress.
Not mandatory if you are not interested in the data it provides to help you analyze where you may want to improve your standing on the web, etc
I would recommend learning more about it before you decide.

Hey Sean,
Looks like your Featured Images is what you are referring to. Am I correct on this?
Doing a quick Google search for "featured images not showing up iconic one theme" (without the quotation marks, of course), the following query ranked number one: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/post-featured-image-not-showing-in-post-view/ in the search results.
However, there were other support forum conversations in the search result, so if this one does not work for you, please try the search and read through the others. There may be a resolve offered among these.
Be sure to BACK UP your website BEFORE trying ANY fix: Full Backup With a Plugin And ... read through the entire conversations BEFORE trying any resolve shared within the support forums.
Hope this helps you.
Hey Trish,
I had no idea what the featured image thing was but it has worked. Thank you for your help

I found a great video on YouTube, showed me exactly how to do it. Search for Tom Corson-Knowles.
He has several great tutorials. :-)
Hey Sean,
There are all sorts of suggestions offered online. Had Google searched about a month ago now for one member, so I know there available. Just gotta' go searching for them.
