Are you confident that you are doing SEO Properly?

Once you've had a website for a length of time and have started to get indexed, undoubtedly you'll start to attract comments from website owners who drop "interesting" comments.

One of my sites has become a target for Michael Kors (whatever that is) along with some other handbag manufacturers and the occasional viagra sales page... (I digress)

Thank you Akismet!

Never mind. That's not what I wanted to discuss.

I've seen the following comment posted on most of my sites from time to time, and the advice is stellar. Is one concise paragraph, they've summed up the best SEO tips that we should all remember.

"Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO? First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL. You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article. Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at [I am not promoting their product]

OK, so the reasons they're posting on my blog are (among other reasons known only to them):

- to get google to recognize their website via my blog - hoping to score some page authority by being on my site.

- to get me to buy something from them

- to get my readers to buy something from them

What's in it for my website (me)?

I'm not sure I have a benefit from this other than reading a nice piece of advice.

Sending an external link to a site that I may or may not like is something we all need to think through every time we approve a comment on our sites.

I did want to just highlight some of the tips, in a simple dot point format so you can copy and paste to your local notebook:

- use all three H1 H2 and H2 tags in your post

- use bold or italics to draw attention to your keywords

- your keyword must appear in the title and in the URL.

- optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article

- make sure your post has relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords littered throughout your post. Another way of thinking about LSI is the Google Suggested terms or the links you see at the bottom of a search results page on Google. These are your LSI keywords.

- your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page.

- you should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword.

- there should be (at least) one internal link to a page on your blog (that's how you achieve PAGE rank)

- have one (or many) image(s) with an alt tag that has your keyword

Some other ideas I like to employ on my posts are;

- Include a Link to at least one to three other articles which are on your site

- Include a Link (a bibliography) to anyone you quote on your post

- Don't pollute your site with site-wide sidebars which Google sees as duplicate content

- Write longer content - if you really want to be an authority in your niche, write more... a sweet spot I've heard from other marketers is 1100+ words in each post.

- Fill your post with info-graphics or pictures to help illustrate your point. Think of yourself as a teacher and of each post as a chapter in your "lesson".

- Ensure you have an author bio picture and statement at the bottom of each post

- Embed a relevant (preferably your own) YouTube video (Google loves Youtube).

Lastly, when I finalize my post, I make sure it has a Featured Image. Then I go and check it on the iPhone or iPad. Some themes will resize to iPhone/iPad shape on a Windows computer, but many don't. You need to be aware of how your site looks on other devices. Remember the usage of Mobile for Internet is surging and we need to make our sites mobile friendly!

Hope you get some ideas out of what I've offered and you take a look at your site to make sure you are doing SEO properly! And good luck to you!

I evaluate the comments made and if they are note worthy, I will note them. Usually they are attempting to sell something.

Good stuff, thank you for the SEO information.

Totally side note, but Michael Kors makes really nice handbags and great fitting clothes for fuller women :) - I mean, that's not their intention, but the proportions happen to work right for me, so I love 'em!

You might not like them so much if you found 30+ spam comments per day containing no less than 30 URLs in each on YOUR website! Lol. Thanks for letting me know who they are. I wonder if they realise the dodgy practices their VAs or Fiverrer's are using to link spam?

I actually have gotten hundreds of those on a site that I'm not currently working on!

The thing is, those spam comments are NOT comment from Micheal Kors. They are coming from individuals (like affiliates and whatnot) who are looking to promote the MK products. Most certainly not MK themselves!!

I get them too, but it is not them, it is others spamming their products

Hey Thank your for the good info. I will save it.

Thanks for the advice! it will definitely be put to good use.
