The Zika Virus
Here in Puerto Rico the zika virus is taking his toll we have nine people infect, the problem with it is no only here but a lot other cities, i found this information relevant to people who want to travel.
After weeks of rising concern about the impact of the Zika virus on this summer’s Rio Olympics, the Centers for Disease Control has warned pregnant women to consider not traveling to the Games.
In a warning issued Friday evening, the CDC stated, “The Zika outbreak in Brazil is dynamic” and the agency would further adjust its warnings as needed. The concern is highest for pregnant women, because scientists are still trying to determine whether Zika has caused birth defects for the babies of women who are infected. Brazil is investigating hundreds of cases of microcephaly, a condition of babies born with small heads, to understand how it relates to the Zika outbreak.
The CDC warned pregnant women who do attend the Games to take whatever steps might be necessary to avoid mosquito bites. Also, since the disease can be sexually transmitted, if a male partner of a pregnant woman attends the Games, the pregnant woman should make sure to use condoms correctly or not have sex for the duration of the pregnancy. The advisory doesn’t warn women considering getting pregnant not to attend the Olympics but advises speaking with a doctor before making the decision.
Zika has become worrisome for female athletes planning to compete in the Games. U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo said earlier this month that she might skip the Olympics if the Zika situation doesn’t improve.
