But I love HSN and QVC. I put it on all day long just to listen to it as background noise. I love the fact that it doesn't matter what they are selling the host is excited about the product and their enthusiasm makes me want to buy whatever it is.
I have been sold on a cordless hand held steamer, a teeth whitener that whitens your teeth with some kind of special light and heat, a curling iron that isn't like any other I've seen, and some luggage.
Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on what mood I am in) I haven't bought any of these things because it just doesn't fit into our budget for me to be able to steam clean the house with white teeth, curly hair, and luggage to put it all away in! Haha
Point is, these guys are professionals when it comes to selling stuff! I would love to be a host. It looks like so much fun!

Oh yes, they are masters, study their patterns, ignore the content look at the structure of how they sell stuff. I love finding good marketing people I sign up for their stuff just to learn from them.
There's a formula to all this stuff.
LOL this is an interesting hobby of yours. I'll have to watch some time to see what it's all about. I'll just make sure I have a Coke ready so I can keep up!
This is excellent research, but I feel so phony when I do a product review and encourage people to buy, because there are only two in stock and who knows when they'll be available again. I also get excited about stuff no one wants -- must be doing something wrong. Oh! I have don't the millions of visitors they have -- got to work on that!
Thanks for sharing -- food for thought!
I actually tuned into HSN yesterday for about 10 minutes and the ladies were selling dresses as I listen to them I thought hmmmmm I need a new dress, nope didn't do it change the channel. HAHA
Brenda
Lol! When ever I feel really tempted to buy something I change the channel too Brenda. That's funny!
I just don't know how they can be so excited about EVERYTHING. I mean, there has to be something that they really don't like but you'd never know it. Listen and learn I guess.
I have seen some where the host doesn't seem as excited about the item however they still talk about it like it's the best thing since sliced bread!
Hey Mercedes,
I often watch QVC (not as big a fan of HSN) for the sales training value. It's priceless! I listen for how the hosts handle questions as well as how they ask questions that lead to "Yes" answers.
As an aside, I tease my wife that QVC really stands for Quickly Vanishing Cash! LOL
Best Regards,
Jim
Just think of the sales tactics and the attention grabbing headlines you could be learning subconsciously. You can always consider your listening time as market research and continuing education. : )
That is a great way of looking at it. That is what I am going to tell my husband when he asks why I watch this stuff! ;-)

you are doing what they do- in a slightly different way and different context.
That was my "penny drop" moment. LOL- like the humor, Andy
Yes we do!
