Chasing a Rat…

Hi everyone,

These past 2 days I've just hardly had time to breath, at long last I'm here.

Anyways my latest "episode"

I fell into bed last night absolutely exhausted and so tired...getting old you see.

At around midnight I have a timer that rings so I can wake up and put some more wood on the fire. It rang as usual and as I lay in bed trying to decide whether it was going to be worthwhile getting up or not (I was so tired) I heard this sort of plonk noise coming from our shower.
Most of my gorgeous fur babies (cats) seemed to home in on the noise. Then it sounded like they were chasing something. I put on the light and what was there... a rat absolutely petrified as all these monsters were after it (my cats about 5 of them were homing in on it).

It ran behind the toilet then scooted along and fell into the spa bath, and all the cats with it.

At this stage I was shouting at my horizontal who sleeps like the dead, to finally get a response. "What, what's happening? There's a rat in the spa I call back. Well kill it," he says.

Now if you know me I'm one of those "animal lovers" that rescues and loves every animal.
I straight away went into my "protect mode" ( I used to teach Muay Thai kickboxing and had my own school... seriously no jokes) I was not going to kill any poor little rat and was not going to let anyone else neither. So in my "combat" mode I dashed to grab my leather gloves from the fireplace jumped into the spa bath which is slippery because it's so smooth.

Cats, me and rat scrambling and sliding with "horizontal" saying, "kill it, knock it on its head."

He obviously didn't realise I was in protect and combat mode and that I had no idea of even listening to him in the slightest. (He doesn't know me that well yet, we've only been as a couple since 2018).
With my lightning reflexes I caught the little darling and held him/her protectively to my chest.

"Open the door," I say to him and he's still going on about knocking the rat on the head.
I bravely stepped outside which of course was freezing and me just in my "granny" jamas, that cold weather just doesn't give me a break.

I gently dropped the poor frightened little darling over the side to "horizontal's horror.

"Why did you do that, he shouts, "it's probably going to move back inside again now?"

Anyways I didn't mind, because I had a nice warm fuzzy feeling because I saved the rat.

This morning 'horizontal' is still quite can't believe I let little rat go.

I'm happy though and ready to do some WA after all I'm in heroine mode now ... feeling most awesome.

Happy days all WA'ers.

I’m so glad you rescued the rat, I would do the same. My cat would get there first, but I would still do what was necessary to save the rat. I’m scared of spiders but I don’t kill them. Just because I don’t like the look of something it doesn’t give me the right to kill it. Good on you Ruth! #ninjagranny

I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one that feels like that… thanks, actually come across a few like us now

You're definitely not the only one, Ruth. My friend Bill spends ages trying to catch flies just so that he can put them outside. He wouldn't dream of swatting one

I love this story. Ruth. Especially learning that you had a Muay Thai school and use endearing words like horizontal ha. Great sense of humor. I would have done the same thing.

When I see spiders or insects in the house, I catch them using the most optimum approach and release them outside. We don't have freezing temperature though.

Cheers.

Edwin

Glad you like, just trying to put a bit of fun on the site

Great story!!! Say hi to "horizontal" for me.
Jim

I will thanks Jim for your support always

What an adventure, Ruth! I have bats that get into the eBay house sometimes. I used to chase them about, but now I leave them alone and they tend to leave me alone too!

Jeff🦇

I had to rescue it couldn’t let it be torn to bits.

True, Ruth, but of course, the cats were simply doing what they have the instincts to do too!😾🐭

Jeff

Yes… and the poor things couldn’t understand how it disappeared just like that

I can certainly imagine, Ruth! What an adventure!

Jeff

That’s a great story, Ruth! I probably would have done the same thing!

You have be be careful since rats and mice vector many diseases, including Hanta virus, which carries a poor prognosis.

It will probably find its way back in, especially if it’s that cold outside.

Frank

You are probably right Frank, I made sure to wash hands after even though I had leather gloves on. I just find it difficult to have anything suffer.
