My Dilemma
OK, so here is my dilemma. I have been producing a weekly radio show (www.themadmusicasylum.com) now for over 2 years. Each week I feature 4 indie bands. I have a submit link on my site and have received over 600 submissions in that time. I addition, I have featured over 400 bands on the show. So, I have two email lists (with some overlap) of over 1,000 bands. Almost all the bands have email lists of their fans I wish I could get access to but that's for another time. I know that I have a somewhat captive audience that I can market to but I need some ideas as to how to go about monetizing these lists. Just sending them links for offers does not seem to be terribly effective. I am working on an ebook to send out and to use to promote sign ups on my sites. I would love some of you internet marketing geniuses to weigh in an give me some solid ideas as to how I can start to make a little dough off of the good will and the free services I have been offering for over 2 years. I am good at producing content but I want to get better at monetizing that content.

Have you monetized your podcast yet? Is it on iTunes? The eBook is a good idea, since you have expertise in this area, how about the following topics: (or you can research the info)
How to promote your band with social media marketing
How to create a Facebook Fan Page
How to get more exposure with Instagram, etc., etc. etc.
Just try to think of all the information/things you know that your bands would want to know.
Create a sales funnel and send out offers ranging from free to ??
I do accept advertising on the show but the ad rate is low. It is not technically a podcast. I am licensed with ASCAP BMI SOCAN SESAC etc for live play only. I am not allowed to store and post for offline use. That would be a violation of my license. The ebook is "25 albums every music fan should own". That is geared to music fans not bands. I am also working with a music agent and promoter to start an email program to send out to these bands. Things like why your band needs a logo and then an affiliate link to a logo production company. There are so many affiliate networks I am being exposed to just from that door (WA) opening up and looking for them. It is amazing and time consuming but hey, I've been doing this for over 2 years for free and I just figured there has got to be a way to make a little scratch out of the deal. Unfortunately I have never been a "money motivated" kind of person so have missed out. I may be missing that gene. I love creating content and there must be a way to profit from that at some point. I never considered affiliate links because I myself never click on them but I am realizing a lot of people do. I guess I just need someone to say yes you are on the right track or no your efforts would be better spent over here. You know? I guess what this all boils down to is empty nest syndrome. My youngest kid (out of 5) just started college and my day job is boring as hell so I need a creative outlet to keep the old mind sharp if you know what I mean. Last year I tried to take things out of the digital world and produced a music festival with many of the bands I met through the station. The festival was a great success from the standpoint of the music and the production itself but I lost my ass. Thanks. later
Hi there, Like I said, I just popped over to look at your stuff. I have read quite a lot of it too.
At one point I almost jumped out of my skin to music that played automatically - I had to switch it off because it is so early in the morning. It was a bit of a shock (even though I usually like loud music)
I have to say though, that I like your style of writing.
What about a connection from the bands and the fans with a newsletter that could collect their email?
