Hi WA community, I have just set up my second website, and am ready to purchace a domain. Just wondering how long can the domain name be? At the moment its about 30 letters wit

Under 15 is the best--the shorter the better, easier to remember that way!

Jeff

30 letters are really long unless it's a domain name that comes very easy on the tongue, like buymeanicecupofcoffee.com. And even this comes to just 21.

Try for a maximum of two or three words. Simple. Uncomplicated.

I posted a question about domain names just yesterday: I don't know what your niche is, but if it has anything to do with affiliate marketing directly, then u could try out one of these that I had found during my search for a suitable domain name yesterday:

HighIncomeAffiliate.com

InvaluableAffiliate.com

ValuableAffiliate.com

TheAffiliateNet.com

Good luck,
Aparna

Most successful websites tend to be up to 15 characters and no more than 3 words. If it creeps to 20 characters or 4 words, you are still ok, but the main thing is short, sweet and rememberable. 30 does seem a bit long though in my opinion, but then again, I haven’t seen what you’re thinking of :-)

I agree with Abie : 17 characters and up to 3 words is a good approach to follow.

17 characters or more than three words.

You can try lean domain search, namemesh and go daddy valuation tool to perhaps find a memorable name.

Please note domain names are not so much important for SEO vs. writing quality rich content with good choice of keywords.

Personally I would not go for more than three words, and you want to make it memorable if you can, so it easier to remember.

How long is too long for a domain name?

Hey guys and girls, im very new to the community and have just gone premium. I was wondering about people's experiences with getting a domain. Has anyone success with the one t

Hi Tony,

Siterubix.com is owned by WA, so you are getting your free site with a subdomain of their root domain. Your free site URL will look like this yoursitename.siterubix.com.

A .com domain will be completely separate from the free site you're starting with. So, you may want to check SiteDomains to see if the name you want is available before you do the free site if you want the same name but without the siterubix portion of course.

You can wait to buy that domain or buy now, or buy elsewhere, it doesn't have to be on WA. You can still host here if you buy the domain elsewhere.

The free site will very easily transfer over to your new domain once you're ready for that.

It is recommended using free sites to test your idea out to see if you like it and when you're comfortable with it, then take it to your own domain.

I hope this info helps you,
Ferra

You do not have to at present, however as you progress the biggest advantage of having own .com in comparison to siterubix subdomain is it is your own, your business, you have complete control over it, you can move it wherever you like; while the subdomain remains the property of WA.

.Com domains will alway rank higher in search engines.

But for the moment get figured out. Wish you well and success in your endeavors. Welcome to WA.

Hi Tony, one of the advantages of WA is that we can set up using one of the free domains that come with our membership.

In the beginning, it takes a little time to work into things; as described it is a straightforward process to shift fro the Site Rubix domain to a custom domain that we own.

When it comes to domains, buying one yesterday can be an idea, especially if we come across something that we gel with or that is directly relatable to the niche that we are exploring.

The investment is worth it, long term.

Over the years I have hesitated and missed out, so just a thought.

Thanks for the answers, this has cleared things up. I'm pretty happy with my niche, but your right, probably best to wait to see how it goes first. I didn't know I could transfer over. Thank you everyone

Hi - most people start with the free one, just to ensure they are happy with the niche they have chosen. This is because once you have purchased the domain, you can't change the name of it. So, if you decide later, you want to try a different niche, you would have to buy another domain.

Once you do purchase your domain, it's a simple process to transfer all your work over, you don't lose anything or have to start again.
