The New Version of Scrivener for Windows and Why You Might Care

Scrivener is a British program for writing long books but I also use it for blog post drafts and planning lists. The image above reflects the fact that the company that makes it is called Literature and Latte. I've been using it for years, first on an old Macbook Pro and now on my Windows laptop. It began as an Apple program.

Just the other day I had an email from the company, telling me that there was a new version of Scrivener 3 for Windows. I had been using an older version and being frugal, I thought I would stay with it,

But tra-la! I qualified for a free update, and that is characteristic of how fair-minded the software company is. Since the Mac version 3 had come out near the end of 2017, we Windows users who had purchased since then were grandfathered in. I had gotten it in 2018. So I took the offer and have been getting to know the newer version.

It's not just a word processing program. It has a sidebar on the left which I use all the time for organizing, and a sidebar on the right that can be used in a variety of ways. Here is an example, part of the file I've been using on my Windows laptop to learn the new features. Normally I would have the middle section much wider, as that is where you write.

I have several Scrivener files, some for my blogging, others for organizing things, and some for the series of cozy mysteries I wrote. For example, I have one file titled WA for things I want to remember from here or questions I want to track down.

So if you are doing anything that this might be helpful for, take a look. I'm not giving an affiliate link, In fact, I'm not giving any link but I gave enough description that you can find it from a search engine. When I got it a week or so ago, they had a sale but I don't know if that is still going on. A very useful tool for anyone here. I hardly use Word any more.

I have used Scrivener in the past, but it was on an older machine. I will look into it again.

Thanks

Alex

Thanks for the heads up Rosana.
I used to use it ... It’s an excellent program and I must check out the upgrade. I have a different system for posts that enables easier management of post production and to copy directly into WP but would use Scrivener for a book I’m writing.

It sounds awesome, Rosana! Thanks for sharing! I use both Word and LibreOffice!

With your long series of books, you might like this too!

I might have to check it out, Rosana!

Sounds like a good version, Rosana.

I hope you do enjoy the new week.
