Greta Thunberg a 16-year old Swedish girl has been nominated to receive Nobel Peace Prize in 2019. Greta was nominated by 3 Norwegian MPs and she tweeted her gratitude saying that she is very grateful and honored.

If she wins, she will take the title of the youngest recipient which is currently held by Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai who was 17 when she received the prize.

Greta has been at fore front in raising awareness about climate change, Greta has triggered protests worldwide against climate change. Her #Friday for future has spread worldwide causing protests around the world.

This reminds me of our own Kenyan Nobel peace prize winner, the late Professor Wangari Mathai, she was fighting so hard to stop deforesting of our country, and fighting grabbing of forest land, she was arrested and many times, she was beaten and humiliated but she never gave up.

The story of a mocking bird

She told a story once saying that hers was just but a small voice but she was gonna raise it and she was not gonna be silent when Kenya is being destroyed, and rivers are drying up as a result of deforestation.

She gave a story about a mocking bird, she said that the forest where the mocking bird was living, was burning and so mocking bird decided to fly to the river, take some water with his little beak and put off the fire, when the other animals noticed what the mocking bird was doing, they told him that his beak was too small and he was only bringing a drop of water at a time, and that was not making a difference.

The mocking bird answered, yes my beak is small and I can only bring one drop of water at a time, but at least I am doing the best I can.

So Ms Greta might be only a 16-year old girl, and her voice might be small but she is doing the best she can.

I hope she wins the Nobel Peace Prize.

Wangari Mathai valued trees very much

And May the soul of mama Professor Wangari Mathai rest in peace, she loved our planet so much and valued trees so much that she wrote in her will, that when she dies, she should not be buried in a wooden casket she said no tree should be cut to make her a casket, so she was not buried in a wooden casket.

What a beautiful story!
I don't know if Greta will receive the Nobel. But
she is an exceptional being who will
mark the world thanks to her strenght of
persuasion and her faith in her fight that moves
youth and the world. I think it's even better than
a Nobel Prize. But I wish her to receive it, it would
be a great reward for her devotion.

Have a nice weekend!
Ingrid

thank you for publishing it

We hope it with you

Our planet needs huge changes
To preserve the future
We are on a very wrong path
And yet, our daily choices matter!

❤️

Great story! I hope she wins...It also gives hope to all of us who sometimes feel like so small. We can make a difference, as small as we are...just like the little mocking bird! And who knows? Once they see the efforts of the little bird, the other animals will get inspired to help!

I hope Greta Thunberg does win the Nobel Peace Prize. Her voice may be small but the impact of what she is raising awareness for is monumental.

Hey Rose 🌹
Interesting how I had a thought cross my mind about we spend time worrying about some things which don’t even have much bearing in our lives!

I’m always happy to help someone but I know I’m not doing enough. I should do enough, like Mama Wangari etc.
Thanks for sharing

Your blog is a reminder to all of us to stand for something that will make a difference in our community.
As I think of what I will do to change the lives of my people, I wish Greta Thunberg success with the Nobel peace prize.

Yes Ahimbe, if we all do the little we can, the world will be a better place.

Thank you for sharing this post. It was beautifully written.
Yes it only takes one person to bring on change in this world.
Most importantly you have to believe in yourself and pull from that inner strength to stand up and fight for what you believe to be true. Just like these beautiful souls.
I’m really looking forward to reading more of your posts.
Keep up the excellent work :)

Thank you MsMela. very true what you said it takes one small but very brave voice.
