8 Years in Wealthy Affiliate (8 Lessons Learned)
I just got a notification that I have been a Wealthy Affiliate premium/premium plus member for 8 years!
I joined Wealthy Affiliate in July 2015. Then I upgraded to premium in September 2015.
Here are 8 lessons from the 8 years of being a member:
1) Work Hard
There's no other way around it. Especially in the beginning when you're a beginner, it's super important that you can develop the skills and get cash flow coming in.
2) Analyze Your Results
It's not enough just to work hard.
If working hard would be the only requirement for success many janitors, fast food workers, cashiers and dishwashers would be billionaires.
You must analyze your results regularly.
- What works?
- What doesn't work?
What should you STOP doing? What should you do MORE?
That leads you to the next step.
3) Improve Constantly
If you become comfortable, the chances are that you'll stop making progress.
Always look for ways to improve and do something better.
The digital world is also constantly changing. Algorithms are staying. You want to stay on the top of your game.
4) Create Positive Work Habits
You have habits that you don't even question.
- Drinking water
- Eating
- Showering
- Brushing your tooth
- Sleeping
- Etc.
In the same way, make working on your business a natural part of your life. Working hard becomes simply a part of your character.
You don't question, "Should I work today or not? Should I quit if this doesn't work in 1 month?" You simply do the work which naturally leads to results.
5) Always Seek Education
You're never ready.
There's always something to learn.
What are the most important areas that you could improve?
How can you learn them?
Seek material that will help you:
- YouTube videos
- Wealthy Affiliate Classes
- Blog posts
- Books and audiobooks
- Online courses
- Etc.
However, remember that the most important thing is taking action:
6) Try => Learn => Improve
Old-fashioned schools do it the wrong way:
- 9 years of basic school
- 3 years of high school
- 3 years for the bachelor's degree
- 2 years for the master's degree
=> 17 years of studying and then we'll see if you learned anything in practice.
A better way to learn is the following:
1) Get the basic knowledge
2) Try it yourself
3) Study how you can improve
4) Do it again
Repeat.
That's how "Wealthy Affiliate University" also works. You'll get to try things IMMEDIATELY in practice instead of waiting for 17 years.
7) There Is No "Right Business Model"
You can succeed in business and in life in many different ways.
You can define what success means to you.
I guess that when you joined Wealthy Affiliate your goal was to increase your income online. You can achieve that in many different ways.
You only need 2 things:
1) Traffic
2) Convert that traffic into money
You can get traffic on ANY platform you want:
- YouTube
- Facebook/Instagram
- Rumble
- TikTok
- Etc.
You can monetize your traffic in ANY way you want:
- Affiliate marketing
- Selling your own products
- Sponsorhips
- Display ads
- Etc.
Usually, each person will tell you that the method they're using themselves is the best one.
For example, a YouTuber will tell you that YouTube is the best method. Blogger will tell you blogging is the best method. Media buyer/advertiser will tell you that paid ads are the best method.
The truth is that you can succeed with any method you want if you're willing to put in the work.
8) Most People Don't Want to Take Action
I think this is one of those things that Jim Rohn calls "Mysteries of life."
When I joined Wealthy Affiliate and started getting results myself, I thought that I could help anyone to get life-changing results online.
My thought went something like this,
"If I have been able to achieve life-changing results following these steps, certainly I can help anyone else to do the same, right?"
Wrong.
For some strange reason, a majority of people quit. You can't force anyone to learn.
Some people take action. Most people don't.
If you want to get better-than-average results, it's relatively easy.
You'll just stick to the game long enough and keep on learning. By the time you start learning the tricks and mastering the game, most of your competitors have already quit.

Congrats Roope on 8 years of serving others through your hard work and innovation.
There are several but I’ll mention just three.
1) Don’t try to do too many things at once. Pick one project and perfect that till it’s earning you income before going on to the next. It doesn’t have to be life changing income, just income to show it works.
2) Leverage what you found that works to generate more income while starting your next project.
3) Rinse and repeat.
Does this make sense Roope?
Cheers!
Edwin
As frustrating as it is, especially to someone new to marketing and sales, what you say, Roope, throughout your entire article is right on-- and especially here:
"Some people take action. Most people don't."
It's a numbers and an attitude game.
So just keep on keep'n on. The numbers and our attitude will make us happy -- and rich, if that's what we want.
See you in school.
Congratulations on your 8 year anniversary with WA. What a great post and insight on what you have learnt, much appreciated. I have only been with WA for a few months, I have learnt that there is a great support network and community within WA and the resources you need are primarily all available within the platform. Keen to see what I will learn and what more I can put into practice over the next few months.
Good morning Roope,
It's amazing how quickly time goes! I remember you starting at Wealthy Affiliate and I knew you were going to be successful. There was just something about you, Roope!
You make some excellent points in your blog post, I can relate to all of your points. I also agree that different business models work for different people, which is actually quite interesting!
I hear you regarding most people not wanting to take action; many people like the idea of having a business; however, it appears that most people do not want to take action or even make an effort, sadly! I guess that's why most people work for someone. I have no idea what the success rate is of people starting out online. I did hear 10% the other day. Personally, I would have thought a lot less than a 10% success rate.
I think the biggest lessons I have learned with Wealthy Affiliate are helping others, being consistent and to keep going.
All the best.
Roy
Good points Roy. I completely agree that the success rate is of people starting out an online business is quite low. On a positive side, I believe it'll become bigger moving forward as everything is gradually moving to the Internet and online work is becoming more and more common every year.
Thank you, Roope.
Yes, I believe that could become a larger percentage, in terms of success, due to people becoming more confident with working online and the opportunities it brings.
Have a great day.
Roy

Thank you Roope. This is a good down to earth post. I really appreciate this honest approach. It is good to know from the start that this is not a get rich quick fix, but a journey of hard work and learning. I look forward to future success, and here's to yours!
Thans Michelle. All the best to you!
