New in-person training session - Content Writing for Noobs
Like many new premium members, my in-person trainee J-Lo has gotten stuck at level 2 of the basic training. Specifically, on writing his first blog post. So, instead of progressing through the lessons, today's training session was about my own personal approach to writing content on any subject:
The Essay Method
I first started developing this method to pass exams in High School without studying. Basically, I could read the study guide and memorise the key bullets, then get into the classroom and just add words, until the 3-6 key points looked well thought out and reasoned.
When further developed for less devious purposes, the Essay Method becomes a powerful tool to overcome writer's block and quickly build relevant and useful content on any subject. In our training session today, the noise of the washing machine was somewhat disruptive, so I chose twin-tub washing machines as my subject. Within a few minutes, I had 250 words and a complete content plan laid out in the WA Site Content editor.
How it Works
First, start with your title. This is literally the hardest part of the Method. Once you have that, just write out the key bullet points for your article. In other words, the sub-topics. Then, turn those into your h1 headings, and add sub-bullets to each of these new headings.
The sub-bullets will become your paragraphs. Go back and expand each sub-bullet into a couple of sentences, or even whole paragraphs, if you can. Finally, having finished writing the details out, you can go back and write an intro and a summary.
You're done! If you had 5 key bullet points, each with 3 or more sub-bullets, you should now have an article of 1,000 words or more.
