Fear is actually a friend.

When we set a goal and outline steps to take to fulfill that goal. Ego likes to cut in with a "Whoah! Are you sure about this? Then proceeds to bring forth it's greatest ally, Fear. Fear will try anything to discourage us from even starting a new endeavor.

First it tries distraction. I've got to get this done or I need to get that done. Go to the store, do the laundry, clean the kitchen, etc. When we learn to sidestep distraction and continue on, it tries something else.

Dissuasion. It will bring up every little bit of discomfort or difficulty we'll experience if we persist and recommends waiting, better known as procrastination. Some of us may even become physically ill with flu like symptoms, big butterflies in the stomach or extreme headaches. Such is the power of the subconscious ego.

We should pause right there and realize that fear is actually a well meaning friend. Like a close friend or dear relative afraid of us being hurt or disappointed. Part of an ancient reflex still lingering in our survival brain to warn us of danger or the possibility of.

Acknowledge it for the times it has saved us from harm. Like the time we hesitated to pull into traffic and the eighteen wheeler would have crushed us inside of our car. A number of times in the past we were held up by some annoyance, only to find out later that we barely avoided some misfortune by being a little late. Gently inform it that it is welcomed when needed but for now, we are fine and in control of our faculties. Then move on into our adventures. Release it from it's duties and push forth.

Fear is always just below the surface at ready, when an outcome is unknown.

This is only one strategy for turning an enemy into a friend.

I use it often and have come to believe, that fear is actually a friend of mine.

Cheers, WA members. Have a great day.

It can be a very good driver of action, best to be friends for sure. Nothing worse than being a passenger.

I've always heard that Fear was simply a lack of Faith. :-) ~Debbi

Wow, never thought fear would make me sick. There is no fear but fear itself, as the saying goes. Well put Rich, thank you,

Fear of the unknown will always rise its ugly head but if you have PMA you can conquer it all the best Max

Great points, well made, thanks Rich :)
