The Myself Collage
And now for something a little bit different... :-)
Find out who you are, where you're up to in your life and what you're all about!
If you're quite creative you might just love this.
Try this interesting, revealing, fun and creative exercise, the results might just surprise you!
You might just spot what makes you tick, what your passions are to help you find your niche or you may discover what there is too much of or not enough of in your life. It's a starting point from which you can build, improve or give yourself a pat on the back for having it just right!
The Rules
Set yourself a time limit of about one hour.
Don't think about it, and like Nike, just do it!
What You Need
a large piece of paper, something like the back of some old wallpaper would be ideal.
Some old magazines and/or newspapers.
Some scissors.
Some glue (a pritt stick is fine).
What You Do
All you need to do is quickly browse through the papers and magazines - you're looking for anything that is relative to you, anything you like the look of.. remember the rule about not thinking too hard though.. cut it out and stick it on the large bit of paper. It's a bit like brainstorming in pictures!
When You're Done
Once you've finished, find somewhere to hang it up so you can study it, using blu-tac is fine.
Now, look at it. Really look at it. Is it a true picture of you and your life? What is it telling you about your life?
I did mine back in about 2002, in a group session, as part of my youth and community qualification. We all had to look at each others collage and say what we thought of each one and how we thought they related to that person.
Amazingly, they were all spot on! Our outward bound guy's was all mountains and ropes, our young mechanic who organised the community buses, his was flash cars, smart women.. Mine was, well mine was lots of comfy sofas, lots of yummy food, the odd glass of vino, toys, kids and oh so many clocks!!!! There was a very clear message in there for me.
So on reflection, my Myself Collage depicted a comfortable family home, good food and someone who was very, very aware of the time, always watching the clock. And it was right.. I lived my life by the clock and didn't take time to stop and smell the roses. Quality time and fun most definitely required!
And... if you think people might think you're far too grown up for this sort of thing.. borrow some children, set them off doing one while you look like you're just joining in for the fun of it!
When you've done it, please come back and let me know what yours revealed to you - was there a message in there for you? Has it given you any ideas for your niche or helped you with a plan of action or does it show you're happy with where you are and what you're doing? I can't wait to find out!
Enjoy!
Maria :-)

Well this looks really interesting, I'm going to try it. I've done different variations of this before but never with the goal of determining what your niche could be. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Maria,
I think this is a great idea. I will have a go at it when I get the chance.
All the best,
