”A Lesson Learned”......RELEVANT offers are a Big Deal with Google

Hi guys, Just a very quick piece I want to share with you today...I learned a pretty good lesson and I want to pass it on to you. I like to study other sites in my niche and I notice that some of the other sites had offers that were not that relevant to their content kinda like the as seen on TV type of stuff at the supermarket checkout stand. But I thought it was cool I mean the sites look great! And I know I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff.

Anyway, I have held a first page ranking for a few of the keywords on my site with consistency even after the recent EMD algo update. So I thought I would add some cool looking side items to my site and BOOM overnight I dropped from the 2nd position on page 1 to the 8th position on page 1. So I immediately removed the new unrelated offers from my site and 30 minutes later, I was back in the #2 position for my main keyword but did not regain the same slots for the other 2 keywords (as of yet its been a day)...

That makes sense.
I think the more relevant the offers on a niche site the more legit it looks too, and that helps build reader confidence in your brand and message.

I don't understand all this quite yet, but I am making a note to come back for this good advice in the future. Thank you for sharing.

Good information to know. Thank you for sharing!

Wow, makes a difference for sure.

Google doesn't like it if there are too many affiliate offers on any given page, so just be careful when you are doing this. It can impact your rankings but I think this may have also been a coincidence as there was a Panda update rolled out on October 5th, so this could have been caused from the shakeup.

So Kyle, if you have a resource page with several offers, should you make it no follow?

No, there is no benefit to doing that. Just keep it as is.

That's a great study and thanks for sharing. I have a question. I have a small number of google adsense widgets sprinkled about on a few pages. On one or two pages the ad is completely off target and I've always hated that. Seems strange google would do that if relevancy is so important. Should I cut them out right away?
thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Thanks for sharing that with us.

Thanks for your insight!!

Good one. RLEVANCY is of prime importance!
John
