Could a Starfish Help Old Ladies?
The Power of a Flyer!
I had looked up at the bulletin board at the teacher's lounge weeks ago. Old Ladies Sandwich Shop. I wondered if my husband had gone yet. It was so funny, but that very day I mentioned the new name of the sandwich shop and my husband mentioned it to me, but we never went.
It was Still Turning in my Mind.
Such power of broadcast and I had not even seen the restaurant yet. Where was this place? Still my husband had not gone and I had not gone either.
We were On Our Way To Scouts
I was driving by not expecting to see anything different, then I saw The Old Ladies Sandwich Shop! I now knew where it was. I pointed it out to my husband. He talked about going after cubscouts.
We Decided to Take the Plunge!
We were going to get to see what our curiousity was about. Outside, I noticed that they did deliveries! I was quite impressed. That would be something that would get customers who might not have transportation. We walked in and we were hungry. The first thing I noticed was the very large chalk board. Hey, there was something I wanted to know about written on the board!
It Was a Menu! I Was Going To Choose Something Yummy!
I thought about the sandwiches on texas toast first. I noticed the ooey gooey buffalo special. I was pretty sure my husband would go for that. I later learned that there was another buffalo chicken sandwich that was not shredded. My husband would probably try that next. Then my son decided on the grilled cheese and though he did not act like he knew what Doritoes were, that is what chips we ordered.
Now it was My Turn!
I looked at something that got my interest. Chucks Chicken Salad. I wanted to know more. Mrs. Diane was very accomodating. She told me it had celery and onions in the chicken salad and it was homemade! That was enough for me!
I Wanted a Chuck's Chicken Salad!
I got to choose my sandwich and then a nice lady behind the counter with blonde hair asked me if I wanted tomatoes and lettuce. I told her definately. Later she asked me if I wanted cheese. I decided upon Swiss.
Oh, This was Going to Be Good!
I had a very packed Chuck's Chicken Salad Sandwich. I chose to take a fork and stuff the chicken salad further down. I like to mix things, though I understand not all people do. My husband got his ooey-gooey buffalo chicken sandwich. It was ooey and gooey with cheese. He decided to take a fork and eat it that way. My son enjoyed his grilled cheese and a can of Mountain Dew.
Then My Husband Dropped his Hot Sauce on the White Table...Oh, No!
I became concerned because I was familiar with the table because the same table stains easily that we use while at cubscouts. I knew it would stain and it was important to get a cleaner on it. I would have hated for her table to become permanently stained.I called to the lady who was working that there was a bad stain on the table.
Mrs. Diane the Owner was Very Cheery and Set Me at Ease.
She said, "oh, that will be alright." "Nothing that some bleach water can't get out." Hey, if she was not worried, I was not worried. She came and washed the table and we started talking. I wanted to know what was the thought process that led to the Old Ladies Sandwich Shop. I told her I enjoyed the un-nutshelled version.
Mrs. Diane was Happy To Share Her Story With Me!
Diane explained to me how the restaurant got it's name. She had opened a place in the past with a name and she did not want that. One day, she was talking to her mother when she said, "come on old woman, we have a lot to do." Then one of the children had an idea. Hey, Old Ladies.....She said, Old Ladies What? They said, "Old Ladies Sandwich Shop!" The rest is history and the little shop has been going on for about 5 weeks.
Then My Husband and I Started Talking about What if.....
My husband had a www.clownsandcrafts.com business card and he decided to give Diane one. Then we started talking about how having a night there was a a clown could help business. We told her it would be wise to advertise the clown to keep the ones with a phobia away for that night. I told her it is like this. If you do not want fish, don't go to the restaurant on the nights they serve fish. It is that simple. We talked about there could be a kids night and Ugg the Clown could do balloon twisting and maybe a magic show.
Would it Work?

I thought it was a fantastic idea ... especially if such a wonderful opportunity happens. God works in mysterious ways!! Go for it, Reading. :)
I like to at least try. Like you said what if thoughts can grow into uglier thought . I like to tackle the ideas before I pass them by.
Most Definitely - it would work, because none of what happened with you and your husband was a coincidence.
I like to help others succeed. Not bad if I get a little something out of it. I like to focus more on giving. That is the hard part.
It's certainly worth a try. In Vancouver many years ago there was a restaurant called, I seem to remember, the bread line. The only requirement was that you had to be over 60 to work there. (They served soups and breads and the lunch line went around the block!)
Wow, great to hear about your story. I thought it was interesting and fit right in when the lady said when she told them the name for her shop Old Ladies Sandwich Shop they laughed and she took that as a go. If they laughed people would look twice at it.
