There is a high percentage of people who use mobile devices and no way are they going to read a 1,000+ article.
Short and sweet does it for me most of the time and as long as they get the message then that should be ok.
No less than 300 words though and make sure you get your very best keyword in there right at the start.

Just bear in mind that more and more people browse with Smart Phones.

I personally don't like long posts, David. But from what little I have learned so far, long posts have better chance of getting indexed on search engines. I have seen that small posts work only for authority sites.
I have 5 posts (< 1500 words) not indexed yet. Then I have one post (>3000 words) and that got indexed instantly. So thats where my opinion comes from.
