The Key to Success? Fail fast!

It occurs to me that I need to post to my blog more often. I'm not referring to this blog, but rather the WordPress blog I intend to make money with. Like others, I find I'm spending too much time caressing each paragraph I write for the blog, or lingering too long answering questions in chat, or... well, just spending too much time doing things that aren't part of the process of being productive.

On one level, I want my blog to be beautiful before I hit the Publish button. On another level, I know the effort to write it is a complete waste if I don't hit the Publish button. Why the delays, and why the insistence on perfection?

I suspect that I'm caught up in a fear of failure to one degree or another. The bottom line we all have to realize is that we cannot succeed if we don't risk failure. I also suspect none of us are regularly turning out flawless posts and pages. Translated, that means we actually (shudder) fail from time to time - or even most of the time.

The good news is that we can learn from each failure. We are all in a unique position; we're able to fail without any financial consequence or damage of any kind - other than a little ding to our ego.

Thankfully we have a few hundred (thousand?) members here who are willing to help by answering questions and sharing their experiences. We can readily edit our errors, and there's no penalty for patching problems. The repair may even lead to another "learning" experience.

The surest path to success is to fail, so get out there and, well... fail.

Fail fast. Best of luck with it!

Right on!
M.

In my life, I have had more failures than successes. That's how I learn. In the end people only remember the successes. As a professional musician I am never satisfied with a performance. That's what makes it satisfying for a lifetime.

If we do not fail, it means we have not tried. We try and we fail and that gives us learning.

Thomas Edison didn't admit that he had failed - he just found 10,000 ways that didn't work. We need to put it out there to see if it works or not.☺ ~Marion

Excellent! I'm destined for greatness!!

ha-ha! You nailed it! I suffer the same erroneous sentiments! The fear of failure precedes all my good intentions of blog publishing! Thus it takes me a long wait before I finally get the courage to "push the button"! Kudos to you for facing up to it and letting us know it's OK to fail and learn from it!

Great post!

Better to have failed than not to have tried at all! :)

Yep, the head says go for it - you're bound to succeed sooner or later! At the same time, the ego says "Lets wait for a while and think about this before jumping in... " - and all too often, the ego ends up running the show.

What a contradictory lot we are!!

No such thing as a failure if you learn something. Then the failure becomes a learning experience... think about it...:-)

If that's the case, I should be getting my PhD next week!

Your phd in humor :-)

Hoe do you blog?

Hi Joe,

I don't know where you are in the Getting Started series of lessons, but the blog I'm referring to is something you can create in just a few minutes.

Sing out if you need some assistance, and we'll see if we can sort it out.

Dennis
