Hey, hey! First off, here are a couple of links:

2. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/website-developmen...

  • Marion wrote the first post on picking themes that is greatly helpful.. Sometimes, things get buried fast around here and need dug out. She points out the great feature filter WordPress provides:

The words are a bit small, but, it can help a great deal! if you can see them to get an idea of what you can look for, besides color.

  • FHagstrom suggests using the KISS formula. Keep it simple, (Sam)!
  • I added the second link above, a helpful question titled What Theme do You use and WHY?.. Please feel free to add a helpful comment for someone there.

With those little odds and ends out of the way..Don't make picking a theme reduce you to barfing in your trashcan at your desk or having an uncomfortably full bladder, because you "just need 5 more minutes!' (which reminds me,..pause...).. Okay, I am back!...

When first encountering even the idea of website building, I asked myself what a widget and a sidebar were and why did they matter? I felt too intimidated by too many other things, so, never even cared to ask anyone.. so, here you go:

New words:

  • Widget-1.A WordPress Widget is a small block that performs a specific function. You can add these widgets in sidebars also known as widget-ready areas on your web page. WordPress widgets were originally created to provide a simple and easy-to-use way of giving design and structure control of the WordPress theme to the user. a plug-in can give you a widget to move into a menu.. But, a plug-in is not a widget. Def. 2. Buttons on your mobile device screen are also called widgets..

refers to a widget-ready area used by WordPress themes to display information that is not a part of the main content. It is not always a vertical column on the side. It can be a horizontal rectangle below or above the content area, footer, header, or any where in the theme.

Now, to pull it all together, you drag your widgets(apps) into the sidebar to create a function that you desire... For example: I downloaded a plug-in called Google+ news which dropped a its so-called widget into my widget area, allowing me to move it into specifically, my right side bar.. Now, I have the current news in pictures on my website.. Cool! Now, here is the widget area in WordPress themes.

You take the things you want to add and move them to the right or vice versa to remove them.

If you can not decide what theme to pick, your best bet is to go with the first theme Kyle mentioned Omega.. Nevertheless, for which ever one you pick, get to know your little animal..As you feed it content and get feedback, we will naturally learn what suits us. Then, move on, if necessary. However, important as it is, have fun. It is part of the creative process.

*Remember, to use the export function in your dashboard to backup your website before changing over to another theme..

Well, it sure has cleared up some things for me writing this post.. I hope it will help you!

Please, feel free to add any thoughts you may have on this..

Keep going and have a great day!

Hello, Sheila! I had to learn it.... finally and was surprised that I never asked, just too many questions , so buried it...

I just wanted to clarify one thing; where you talk about moving your website under the"*remember part, do you mean to another theme or some other than that?

Thanks

You are welcome? ♥Pj

Love this! And enjoy your writing style! :-)

Thank you, Cathy! Hopefully, it is too hard to follow, my keys were sticky today!

Turn that keyboard over and beat it on your desk. You'd be amazed the gunk that falls out and you'll be pleased if the keys stop sticking. Of course, they probably won't, but sometimes it just feels good to beat on inanimate objects. LOL

Yes, it does! You know me?!

Well - you do sorta look like one of my best friends! :-)
