Javascript and Cookies - Comments Fix

What the heck is Javascript? Writing in coffee??

JavaScript is the programming language of HTML and the Web. Programming makes computers do what you want them to do. This runs along with PHP that helps compose the backend of WordPress and helps it do some of the cool stuff we like.

The Error:

Regardless, many folks have seen the following error recently:

" Currently you have JavaScript disabled. In order to post comments, please make sure JavaScript and Cookies are enabled..... "

IF you have someone contacting you that your website is broken, don't believe them right outta the gate. :-) It's likely not your fault at all.

Generally, the security settings of that web visitor's browser is set too high. Sometimes when we upgrade the version on our browsers, these new errors suddenly start popping up now and again. Settings may have changed or somehow the person installed something that changed/tweaked their security settings.

Javascript on our websites is harmless. BUT, Javascript downloads "can" be a way for malicious code to be downloaded and installed on our computers from very bad websites. But, none of us would do that, I'm sure! :-)

Okay, so, If you have a person that contacts you about this JavaScript error, you may want to create an email OR a page on your website to point them to....

(first, ask them to try another browser and see if it still happens.)

NOTE: Additionally, this error can popup on other Java issues where Javascript is running - not just the comments section.

Here are the common adjustments to fix this wee issue:

The Java Fix for Firefox:

Follow these instructions to activate and enable JavaScript in Firefox.

PC & MAC
Open a new Firefox browser window or tab.
Copy the following then paste it into the Firefox address bar: about:config
Hit the Enter key.
On the following page, click the button: "I'll be careful, I promise!"
Find the javascript.enabled row under the Preference Name heading.
Double-click anywhere within the javascript.enabled row to toggle the value from "False" to "True".
Finally, refresh your browser.

The Java fix for Google Chrome:

PCTo the right of the address bar, click the icon with 3 stacked horizontal lines.
From the drop-down menu, select Settings.
At the bottom of the page, click the Show advanced settings… link.
Under the Privacy section, click the Content settings… button.
Under the JavaScript heading, select the Allow all sites to run JavaScript radio button.
Finally, refresh your browser.

MAC
Select Chrome from the Apple/System bar at the top of the screen.
Select Preferences... from the drop-down menu.
In the left-hand column, select Settings from the list.
At the bottom of the page, click the Show advanced settings… link.
Under the Privacy section, click the Content settings… button.
Under the JavaScript heading, select the Allow all sites to run JavaScript radio button.
Finally, refresh your browser.

The Java Fix for MIcrosoft Edge (MS IE) and Windows 10:

To do so, in Windows 10:

Launch the Edit Group Policy program.
Expand the User Configuration folder.
Expand the Administrative Templates folder.
Expand the Windows Components folder.

Expand the Microsoft Edge folder.
Double-click Allows you to run scripts, like Javascript.
Choose Disabled, and click Ok to confirm.
