Great Source for TRULY FREE Images

I went to Wikimedia to find very nice FREE images to add to my website. There were many, but I wanted the BEST. To make sure I had the nicest pictures I searched https://www.SXC.hu. They had many that I could use but when I went to download those images, I got a surprise - they were not truly free. The Wikipedia story of sxc.hu., its accusation history, and how it became a part of Getty Images is an interesting one. It is more thorough at Wikipedia than I could present without copying and pasting the text. [Probably a copyright violation] The URL for that story is:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeImages

The sight is now owned by Getty Images. The Wikipedia story regarding Getty Images is a must read.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getty_Images

Still, Getty Images has more images available than any other but…

There are many free or nearly free image sites.

Here is the link to Wikipedia’s Image Sharing Sites. You may find sites that you like that are FREE or cost very little.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_image-sharing_websites

Now for what is becoming my favorite FREE images site: https://www.rgbstock.com/

After finding it, my first thought was “Yea, right, FREE, what is the catch?” I was right, there was a catch.

You had to register and pay a monthly fee of ???. The amount of the fee is given below the following image and description from RGBStock.

This was in the search for waterfalls which had 419 images. To the right is information about the photographer and the photograph.

Below is the photo's description, keywords, and a comment box. The comment goes to the photographer. It can be used to complement, to let the owner know how and where it is being used (as suggested by RGB), and ask special use permissions from the owner.

Now for the FEE!!! $0.00. That is no typo, it IS FREE! I plan on helping them grow their library by uploading some of my favorite personal photos.

You will definitely have to check out the FAQ, About Rgbstock.com, browse through their 14 CATAGORIES, and check out some of their images that may be relevant to your niche(s).

Hopefully, you find many images that you can use.

we sure are

Thanks, Pieleo. I think I've used Rgbstock before but for anything really serious (like a book cover) I always seem to end up going to Shutterstock. Certainly not free but the best quality and an excellent editor.

Phil
Thanks for the comment.
Shutterstock IS a good source but I'm on a strict budget. Just did a quick check for "bookcovers" - none but over 900 pics under books. Their library is growing. I would encourage everyone here that uses any of thier images to contribute images and help grow their library we could all benefit. Have some great pics of my youngest, animals, the farm, plus more and plan to donate some to RGB(after I get her WRITTEN permission).
BTW: that was the year I was born. Good number.

I wouldn't be searching for bookcovers.

If I were writing a book on exercise or weight loss, I'd probably search for healthy man, healthy woman, exercise couple etc., depending on who my target audience was.

Which number? 1944?

Phil,
Got you. Yes 1944. but at times I feel like it was 900. (hahaha). Just noticed it is 0412 hr. Have to get up by 0800hr. Bye-Bye beauty sleep. Doesn't work for me anymore anyway.
Have a GREAT Day
Leo
