Hi everyone,

When I look around WA a lot of people seem to have this 1500 word figure in their head, is this a must, lately some of the blog posts/ pages I've created are

Thank you for this. I am struggling trying to come up with 1500 words. I have been on hold trying to find the words to write. Now I can take deep breathe, thank you

Hi Phil. As has already been said the number count is not critical. However, what you can say in 400-500 words is often just a small part of a much larger subject. It is your choice as to how wide you want that particular article to go.

Thank you all very much for commenting, it's helped out a lot

1500 will more than likely rank better is Google, 400-500 with great content will also.

500 is fine if that's all you have to say on a subject, you can always add to it at a latter date if you get some more ideas. I often find myself reading sites and it triggers ideas for posts on my site.

Also a good brain storming session with keywords can help trigger some fresh ideas & insight into an article.

But don't stress over the 500 words, it is what it is & if it conveys what you want to say, I wouldn't be concerned.

I really have a hard time coming up with 500 words on most of my post; so glad you asked the question

Hi Phil

It is generally considered that 500 words is a good starting point as it gives the Search Engines enough material to analyse and categorise your article. As Jovo says it is not a hard and fast rule.

I would never dream of aiming for 1500 words for EVERY article, for many readers this could be too much to take in depending on the subject.

You can create long articles but they need to be well structured and broken down into bite size elements to aid easy reading.

Occasionally you might just want to tell your readers something that might take up only 3 or 4 lines, just don't make this the norm for all your articles ; )

If your 400 word article reads well and says all you need to then go ahead, post it.

Whatever you do, don't go and pad your material out with a load of waffle just to create a few extra words , unless you want to lose the respect of your visitors and lose traffic.

Quality 1st !

All the best Phil

Dave

Great advices Dave, as always from your side, thorough and thoughtful. I like to read them. Thanks. Jovo

Nothing is written in stone, but the more you practice the art of writing the easier it gets.

Ok but some of the topics I have yet to cover don't seem like I could churn out heaps of words.

I agree with jvranjes. 1500 words is a guideline only. The search engines like to see relevant and comprehensive content that is valuable to site visitors.

My most successful web pages are quite large. Here is an example:

(http://www.healthtopics4you.info/pacemaker-device-candidates.html) error link

http://www.healthtopics4you.info/pacemaker-device-candidates.html (good link)

This web page has ranked #7 for years on Google.

All I did was to write an article from my heart and include enough content to get my point across. I didn't word count. I just wrote a good article.

I hope that helps ... GrampaMike

I'm getting a 404 on that page.

Indeed me to!

Sorry about the 404 error. My bad. Compare the 2 URLs above. The first has the parentheses linked which is what caused the 404. The bottom URL eliminated the parentheses. Ta daaaaa, no more 404. Gosh, I guess even GrampaMike is fallible ... GrampaMike

Nothing is a must. I just posted one with slightly below 500 but I have some over 2000. Write normally to make a good text and do not count words. Jovo

Thank you so much I was worried that my site would turn crappy if I didn't hit 1500 words
